We also have a major family history of diabetes and a family member is concerned that edibles are not the best option for me considering my family history. How can explain to her the differences between the different methods of consuming cannabis and why edibles create a longer lasting and more relaxing effect than vaping or topical products? \"\n_____________________\nCongratulations on finding a cannabis product that brings relief. Before we answer your question, we would like to make a distinction between the product that you consume and mode of administration (MOA), which is the route in which you put the cannabis in your body. \nThis distinction is important, because it is not necessarily the \"edible\" - we are assuming the edible has sugar because of the diabetes concern- but the mode of administration, oral, that causes the cannabis to be processed through your liver. \nWhen cannabis goes through your liver it is converted to the type of THC that really works on alleviating your symptoms and helping you sleep. \nSo, there are numerous, sugar free products that you can consume and most likely get the same effect. Some experimentation may be needed but start by taking the same number of milligrams of sugar-free product as you take of your potentially diabetes inducing (at least according to your concerned relative) edible. \nBTW, cannabis is very helpful for diabetes, but not the sugary kind!\n\ndneice\n_____________________\nThat's wonderful that edibles are helping you manage your pain and insomnia. Cannabis can be consumed via different methods, such as smoking, sub-lingual, topical, and via beverage or edible consumption. Smoking and sub-lingual can help you get pain relief at a faster rate of time because they enter into your blood stream quicker. The effects are shorter and you may need to medicate more often. Sub-lingual are used via tinctures and are absorbed into the blood stream by applying the tincture under the tongue or in the soft tissue in the side your mouth. Visa-vis consumption through edibles and beverages need to be digested and finally processed through the liver. The effects are longer lasting, but patient needs to be careful with dosage amounts. Some patients may experience tachycardia (fast heart pulse) with higher dosages of edibles which often can cause panic attacks. Starting with smalls dosages of edibles is a wise approach to avoid such problems. Start with a small dosage that is right for you or that is recommended by your physician and slowly increase if pain persists. Also, make sure you do not have any where to go for a long while after consuming edibles. Avoid driving and operating any type of machinery. This is another reason by starting with small dosages is a good approach when medicating with edibles.\n\npauly\n_____________________\nIt is wonderful to hear that you are getting the relief you need by consuming edibles. Edibles typically take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to have a full effect. It has to work through your digestive system, going through your stomach and then your liver. We recommend that patients enjoy Kiva as a desert so that the cannabis can process naturally with the rest of your digestive functions. Once it has been processed by your liver it turns that Delta 9thc into a delta 11 which can create a more intense and longer lasting effect.\n That is why edibles are the preferred method for ailments such as insomnia and pain relief. Smoking and vaping have a much faster onset, almost instantaneous, but the effect also wears off quicker. Some patients may find relief from smoking or vaping and then eating an edible for a more even keel effect. Once the smoke has worn off the edible is kicking in and they won't have to smoke or vape as often. Edibles do produce more of a bodily heavy effect, while vaping is more of a cerebral effect. When you combine the 2 you may get the best of both worlds. Please remember that there are many different factors to take in account. Every BODY is different, that is why we recommend 5mg as a starting dose until you know how it affects you. Also, the exact that is used can create a different effect. We use a cold water extract, which is one of the oldest. cleanest, and safest methods of extraction for the cannabis. There are no chemicals involved in the process. On a final note, I would recommend our dark chocolate line of products since they have the least amount of sugar. :)\nThank you\n\nkivaerica","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11473-markdown","title":"The Right Dosage of CBD ?","slug":"the-right-dosage-of-cbd","content":"\"I recently had a consult to get my ID card and during the consult we talked about CBD spray or drops 2x a day. I am getting the 500mg strength - Recommended Dosage is 2 sprays twice a day (They say that is about 3mg of CBD) ? The is primarily for PTSD and Diabetes (2 separate people). Thanks\n\"\n_____________________\nCBD or cannabidiol works differently than THC. CBD increases our own natural cannabinoid levels (endocannabinoids), without actually binding to the CB1 or CB2 receptors. In conjunction with the other components in a cannabis whole plant extract, It seems to help stabilize many of our homeostatic functions. Basically CBD, THC and other compounds in cannabis work with our endocannabinoid system to help bring it back to equilibrium. Im sorry that I cannot comment directly on specific products. But I would start with a small dose, observe for results, and increase the dose until the desired results are achieved. There is no danger in taking very high doses of cannabis products. However, as with other plant derived extracts and concentrated products, quality and purity can vary significantly. He has to take lots of medication for his diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and enlarged prostrate. To get the MM card we sent to you his list of medications--of which he takes a lot in the a.m. and pm. The most prevalent symptom of the brain tumor is sleepiness, loss of strength in his muscles where he cannot get up or out of bed by himself. When I give him the MM as he has these pills in his system, he is worse--sleeps more, delirious to a degree, and can hardly move at all. I am wondering if the MM is interacting with some of the medication that makes him worse with the MM and with his weak muscles--which become much weaker. Or, might it be a combination of the tumor, the MM and the prescribed meds? I want to give him the MM at all cost and wonder if I should check with his medical doctor if any of the meds could be cut at this point? If you need the list of meds again, I can send. CBD may actually help to heal the nerves and that would benefit you also. I would venture to say that you might try some of the topical cannabis designed as a spray for women to increase pleasure but you may want to try it on your penis. Given your age you very likely have had a decline in your HGH level and that affects your ability to function sexually. You could have a 7 AM IGF-1 serum level measured and ideally it should be close to 200 but if it is under 100 you need support. I have helped a lot of men support their IGF-1 naturally but due to constraints I can't talk about that information here, you would have to contact me outside this website. Do try the cannabis first and you might try interval training to see if it will help your IGF-1 level. \nPlease be certain you have adequate vitamin D blood levels, above 50 ng/ML for optimal results because of vitamin D and CBD cannabis should correct your fibromyalgia as long as you are not taking supplemental calcium, you should get your calcium from vegetables and leafy greens instead. CBD cannabis will not stimulate munchies and it does control anxiety so then you can kick back and enjoy some THC at times. It does take three weeks for you to fully feel all the benefits from high CBD cannabis so just keep taking it. I usually recommend that you start at about 10 drops twice daily since there is no reason to smoke CBD's, they will not make you high and the super high CBD tincture is the most economical way to use CBD's. At three weeks you may need to adjust your dosage up if you are not feeling all the benefits of CBD cannabis. Their are varieties such as ACDC, Harlequin, Cannatonic as well as others so please explore this with your local Budmaster. Your diabetes should improve with regular use of CBD's but you must also be certain your vitamin D, 25-OHD is above \n50 ng/ML for optimal health benefits. How would she ingest? What is the dosage? Is this typical of this age to start on a new regimen of cannabis? Anything would be better than the deadly mixture they are telling her to take. Any help is welcome. Thank you so much!\"\n_____________________\nTry a CBD rich tincture (liquid drops that go under the tongue and are absorbed in the mouth) with a ratio of anywhere from 60:1 to 2:1 CBD:THC. Start with a small dose a few times a day and observe for effectiveness.\n\nandrewvanmd\n_____________________\nI agree with Dr. Vandeveer in that I believe CBD rich tincture is the best way to treat your mom but my concern is someone is giving her extra calcium and possibly ignoring her need for more vitamin D. Once we are over 50 years old we cannot make vitamin D in the skin so it must be taken as supplements. Supplements of calcium should never be taken unless the person has been proven to be deficient in the blood level of calcium. If a person takes supplemental calcium it can give the symptoms of RA and fibromyalgia because the calcium calcify's tissues that should not be calcified, such as blood vessels, heart valves and even our muscles leading to more leg cramps and muscle spasms and even kidney disease.\nIf you plan to supplement vitamin D3, her blood level of vitamin D must be measured in two ways, \n25-OHD, the inactive form and 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D, the active form excreted by the kidneys. Her blood level could below and her kidney level could be high and in that case the vitamin D may need to be compounded for topical application but both levels must be checked regularly well supplementing the vitamin D to get her blood level above 50 ng/ml for optimal results. \nDiabetics typically respond well to CBD cannabis and to supplemental vitamin D but again the caution is with her kidneys.\nWhen she first starts the CBD tincture (it should be low THC, no alcohol and the highest concentration drops you can find so she has to take less drops), and start her at a total of 10 drops per day spread out to four or five doses through the day. In one week you could try going to 16-20 drops per day as long as her blood pressure stays good and she is feeling well. She may not feel the full benefit of the CBD tincture for up to three weeks but the pain relief should start quickly.\nYou don't mention what other pills she is taking and that would be of benefit to know because some of those medications may not be necessary once she is on CBD tincture.\nGood luck, I know your mom appreciates your help.\n\ndrolson","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_10916-markdown","title":"I am on Avastin for chemotherapy. Avastin is designed to prevent angiogenesis by binding to VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), ensuring that it will not bind with the VEGF receptor.
