You can get a patient certification from any registered practitioner. In [Illinois](https://dph.illinois.gov/topics-services/prevention-wellness/medical-cannabis/extending-your-registry-card), for example, there are two types of renewals. First there is an ‘extension renewal,” which is a yearly incremental renewal for patients that did not purchase a three-year card at the onset of registering and wish to continue with the Medical Cannabis Patient Program. (They don’t require healthcare professional certification.)  \n\nAnd then there is a ‘full certification renewal.’ This is a renewal for patients that have had their cards for three years or whose card has expired. Patients have to see their certifying health care professional for a new updated online health care professional certification.\n\nBut if you are asking if you can renew the medical card you initially received through HelloMD the answer is a definite yes.
