CBD tends to be energizing at low doses and sedating at high doses. However, some patients experience sedation with small doses so like always, start low and increase slowly until you are falling asleep within 30 minutes and sleeping for 7-8 hours. \n\ndrfrye","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7343-markdown","title":"Are CBD's strain specific? ","slug":"are-cbds-strain-specific","content":"\"Lately I've seen lots of video online showing CBD oil being given to kids having seizures and parkinson patients having severe distortion, tremors  difficulty speaking and within minutes under control.  I have friends witj Parkinsons who need help.\"\n_____________________\nWe all want to help our friends but some things must be left to the doctors, like the management of disease process so please, do not treat your friends but you may make suggestions that may help. \nMost cases of Parkinson's disease are not hereditary that we are aware of it this time but the person may have genes that increase their risk of developing Parkinson's disease. \nDue to the increase chemical load we are all living with it is highly likely the person may be toxic enter health them develop a better diet and lifestyle may be of some benefit. Certainly, exercise has been shown to be beneficial in slowing the progression of Parkinson's disease.\nThere are many chemicals in various professions that may be associated with Parkinson's disease including fungicides, insecticides, agent orange, herbicides, Chemical neurotoxins and even a history of prior head injuries maybe significant for damaging the part of the brain responsible for secreting dopamine.\nWe have no studies regarding the use of CBD oil in a patient with Parkinson's disease but we do know that both CBD and THC trigger dopamine production so there may be benefit and it likely can reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and since cannabis tends to be well-tolerated the patient may decide it's worth a try. The area of the brain that produces dopamine is in the process of dying so the results will depend a lot on the progression of the disease since Cannabis will not bring that area back to life once the tissue has died.\nFinding the cause of Parkinson's disease is the ultimate goal in being able to effectively cure the disease.\n1998 research does it reveal the neuroprotective benefit of have cannabinoids and it does appear that cannabis is able to help remove toxins and toxic waste and it is believed that neurotoxic build up contributes to Parkinson's disease but cannabinoids can improve the health of the mitochondria while reducing oxidative stress in the brain which would slow the degeneration.\nThere are later studies that show that CBD is beneficial in treating Parkinson's psychosis because it eliminated a neurotoxin thought to be a contributor in the development of Parkinson's disease and it reduced brain cell death.\nThis is an area where are a lot of research is being done and it does appear favorable to the use of cannabis just love the disease and in treatment of the symptoms so it is worth following closely.\n\ndrolson","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11071-markdown","title":"It seems like making cannabis products into Strawberry Jam would make it easy to confuse kids.","slug":"it-seems-like-making-cannabis-products-into-strawberry-jam-would-make-it-easy-to-confuse-kids","content":"\"I would worry about kids in the house, eating the wrong jam.\"\n_____________________\nThis is a common risk of edibles. Unfortunately, all of the great ways to hide that cannabis flavor and make delicious treats also make for munchies that appeal to children. If there are children present in the household you should always keep your edibles locked away in a safe place. I do not just mean stored in a safe place. I highly recommend that you keep them in a locked space so there is no risk of any accidents happening.\n\nryan","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_10811-markdown","title":"Is Charlottes Web the strain that was featured on Dr Sanjay Gupta's program?","slug":"is-charlottes-web-the-strain-that-was-featured-on-dr-sanjay-guptas-program","content":"\"There was a CNN Special on cannabis and they interviewed all these sick kids. Is Charlottes Web the strain that was so helpful? \"\n_____________________\nYes it is! \n\nCharlotte's Web is a sativa strain developed by the Stanley brothers in Colorado and used to successfully treat Charlotte Figi, a young girl with severe, intractable, life-threatening seizures due to a rare condition called Dravet Syndrome. \n\nCharlotte's condition is very high in cannabidiol, CBD, and very low (<0.3%) in THC. Strains with these characteristics may be helpful for the treatment of chronic pain, migraine headaches, and seizure prevention while having minimal (if any) intoxicating effects.\n\ndredmunds","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_10673-markdown","title":"How do I do I find a caregiver to discuss medical cannabis for treatment of Crohn's in teens?","slug":"how-do-i-do-i-find-a-caregiver-to-discuss-medical-cannabis-for-treatment-of-crohns-in-teens","content":"\n_____________________\nI'm not sure exactly what your asking. You can ask any person who is informed about this subject to speak with you. For example, one of our HelloMD physicians Dr. Bluto just gave a very complete answer about Crohn's just below, which applies for teens as well.\n\nHowever if your asking about how to obtain cannabis when your under 18, then you must have a parent or caregiver discuss your situation with a physician to obtain it. \n\nRegarding a caregiver, the California Supreme Court  held that \"the statutory definition has two parts: (1) a primary caregiver must have been designated as such by the medical marijuana patient; and (2) he or she must be a person 'who has consistently assumed responsibility for the housing, health, or safety' of the patient.\" To see how this would fit for your individual case I would suggest consulting an attorney. \n\nWe at HelloMD do not perform evaluations for people under 18 years of age. \n\nPerry Solomon, MD","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_10620-markdown","title":"I have heard of teenagers successfully using cannabis for anxiety.","slug":"i-have-heard-of-teenagers-successfully-using-cannabis-for-anxiety","content":"\"Feels like there could risk of some cross-over usage here for this age group. What is the best way to evaluate whether a teenager is a good fit for cannabis, as an alternative to what feels like a long term pharma solution?\"\n_____________________\nCannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive component of the plant is a potent anxiolytic and has very few potential side effects (it can interfer with sleep if taken too late in the day and it is an appetite suppressant).  Regardless of age, CBD is a highly effective medicinal for the treatment of anxiety. Cannabis use leads to illegal drug use and dependence the same way eating French fries leads to overeating and obesity. Most obese people ate French fries in adolescence but most adolescents who eat French fries do not become obese. I am a board-certified pediatrician with a strong background in developmental pediatrics, and in assessing patients with behavior and school problems. I've treated hundreds of patients with anxiety with CBD and am far more comfortable with it than using pharmaceuticals like benzodiazepines, antidepressants, and gaba analogs. I would have zero concerns about using a high CBD variety cannabis for the long term treatment of anxiety in adolescents. And I might add that the neurodevelopmental changes that occur in the developing brain are associated with THC, not CBD. THC would not be my choice for treating anxiety in adolescents or adults.\n\ndrfrye","image":null}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":0,"numPages":1,"currentPage":1,"id":5820,"name":"Teenagers","slug":"teenagers","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
