Laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids may be able to kill cancer cells while protecting normal cells.\" Specific research studies documented on the NCI FAQs include studies showing cannabinoids may protect against inflammation of the colon and may have potential in reducing the risk of colon cancer, and possibly in its treatment. A laboratory study of delta-9-THC in hepatocellular carcinoma - liver cancer - showed it killed or damaged the cancer cells.\n     Delta -9-THC has been shown to have anti-tumor effects in non-small cell lung cancer cells and breast cancer cells. A laboratory study of CBD - cannabidiol- in estrogen receptor positive and negative breast cancer cells showed CBD lessened the growth, number and spread of tumors.\n     A laboratory study of CBD in human glioma cells showed that along with chemotherapy, CBD may make chemotherapy more effective and increase cancer cell death without harming normal cells. Studies show CBD and delta-9-THC in combination with temozolomide made chemotherapy more effective.\n     While these studies are remarkable and inspire us to challenge the frontier of bench research in cannabinoid treatment of cancer, they are considered preclinical by the NCI. That means they were performed in vitro and in animals. To date there are no large population Random Controlled Research trials in humans that prove conclusively cannabinoids kill cancer.\n     There are many anecdotal reports that are difficult to dismiss. The Magazine Culture published MRI scans showing the disappearance of a brain tumor in a young woman traditional medicine had lost hope for. Should she be concerned about discussing this with her oncologist? \"\n_____________________\nI agree with you and would encourage her to bring the topic up with her oncologist. Cancer patients often find relief from symptoms of cancer and cancer treatments with cannabis. Most oncologists are aware of the growing body of evidence that cannabis is helpful an may even be therapeutic for some cancer types. Your friend should feel empowered to discuss the possible risks and benefits of any treatment with her physician.\n \nClinical Oncology trials are strict because they have to be. Cannabis may or may not be a barrier to entry into a trial depending on the hypothesis, and what treatments are being observed. Trial coordinators and physicians have to understand all the variables impacting a patient's response to treatment and full disclosure of all medicinal therapies is key to assessing trial results. This is a very important reason to discuss with your physician. Knowing a patient's needs and concerns is the only way the physician is going to be able to counsel a patient toward the correct therapeutic choice.\n\nI hope this is helpful. Medical trials do not allow you or your doctor to know what the treatment is until the trial is complete and there is no guarantee that your friend would even receive the medication or treatment that is in the trial. I certain number of patients are maintained as \"control patients\" but no one knows that they are the control patients until the trial has been completed and they do not receive the medication, only a placebo or sham treatment. This might potentially have a devastating outcome for your friend. In addition there are so many things that can be done to support her health in overcoming the cancer that she will not be allowed to do because it could interfere with the study. Hopefully you can see and understand how devastating this could be to your friend's life. \nEven Dr. Mimi Guarneri, from Scripps clinic, points out that, \"A 2008 study showed that women with breast cancer who were deficient in vitamin D---with levels less than 50 ng/mL---had a 94% greater chance of metastatic disease and a 73% greater chance of death in patients with levels over 50 ng/mL.\" So maybe it might make sense to boost her overall health and immune system to recover from the disease rather than playing potential Russian roulette in a clinical trial that may or may not help anyone. This does not mean she denies Western treatment. She may also want to read a book, \"Sex, Lies and Menopause\" by Wiley and Taguchi because we know breast cancer can come back even 30 years later so she must know what to do after the western medical treatment has been completed. This maybe a very challenging decision for her but she must be supported in her choice and the only way to know what options to choose is to be knowledgeable and unbiased while looking at her options. I do not drink alcohol much, eat a very healthy diet and exercise regularly. My use of CBD has been successful in reducing overall body inflammation and the amount of migraines I get. Could it also inhibit breast cancer if I use it regularly for a long period of time?\"\n_____________________\nYou are doing all the right things to minimize your preventable risk of breast cancer in the face of the heritable risk you have locked in your genes. Those that are effected by joint pain after chemotherapy are unknown, That being said however, cannabis has been used for centuries to help with joint pain. Today there are many oils and creams that can be used topically on the skin over the joints that are painful. The anti-inflammatory effect of cannabis as well as it's ability to modulate the immune system has made it a staple in many people who suffer from joint pain either form osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid arthritis.\n\nCannabis infused creams and oils and other trans-dermal  methods work by binding to CB2 receptors that are part of the bodies endocannabinoid system. Some of the topicals do not have any THC in them at all and therefor avoid any psychoactive effects. Even those with some THC in them have a mild, if any, psychoactive effect. Cancer is not necessarily one disease and treatment methods between different cancer types often vary.
