They make a great alternative to\nmarijuana brownies and similar desserts, especially for anyone who\ndoesn't like chocolate or is simply looking for a new, equally sweet\noption. Fortunately, the recipe is among the simplest available when it\ncomes to desserts that contain marijuana, with a short ingredients list\nand just a few easy steps. Without further ado, here's how to make\nmarijuana Rice Krispies treats.\n\nList of Ingredients\n-------------------\n\n- 4 cups of miniature marshmallows\n- 5 cups of crisp rice cereal (either Rice Krispies or another brand)\n- 1/4 cup [cannabis\n butter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter)\n\nEquipment To Have on Hand\n-------------------------\n\n- 13 x 9-inch baking pan\n- Wax paper or a buttered spatula\n- Saucepan\n\nBaking Directions\n-----------------\n\n1. Turn a stove burner on low and place the saucepan on it.\n2. Add the cannabis butter to the pan so it can begin to melt.\n3. Add the miniature marshmallows to the pan, stirring to ensure they\n start to melt and mix together.\n4. Continue to cook butter and marshmallow mixture for another 2\n minutes, stirring frequently.\n5. Remove the saucepan from the heat.\n6. Add the crisp rice cereal and stir until the butter and marshmallow\n mixture is completely coated with the cereal.\n7. Use either wax paper or a buttered spatula to transfer the mixture\n from the saucepan to the greased 13 x 9-inch pan, pressing the\n mixture into the pan until it looks even.\n8. Allow the Rice Krispies treats mixture to cool, and then cut it into\n squares that measure 2 x 2 inches.\n9. Try them out and get ready to feel great.\n10. To store these marijuana Rice Krispies treats, wrap them in plastic\n wrap or put them in a covered container in the refrigerator for up\n to 1 week for best results.\n\nCustomizing Marijuana Rice Krispies Treats\n-------------------------------------------\n\nAs cereal fans might guess, these treats can be made in a few different\nways, since there are some similar cereal options on the market.\nChocolate lovers can use Cocoa Krispies, while people who have fruitier\ntastes might enjoy Fruity Pebbles instead. Of course, either name brand\nor generic cereals can be used with this recipe.\n\nIn addition, anyone looking to change up this recipe even more can add a\nnumber of fun treats. Examples include sprinkles, chocolate chips,\nbutterscotch pieces, M&Ms and Reese's Pieces, to name just a few\noptions. People who bake this recipe can also top the treats off with\nchocolate syrup, caramel syrup or Nutella drizzled over them as they\ncool.\n\nCannabis users may find it fun to experiment with this recipe, and this\napplies not only to tasty additions like candy, but also cannabis.\nThat's because, while many people will find one-quarter cup of cannabis\nbutter to be sufficient for their medicinal needs, some others might\nwant to increase it to one-half cup if these aren't strong enough. Of\ncourse, some people might need less if they're just getting started with\n[marijuana\nedibles](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5640eb06510f78000b000014/9-foolproof-rules-for-consuming-cannabis-edibles).\nThe key is to experiment with these just as bakers do with any dessert.\n\nWhen these are ready to enjoy, be sure to start slowly by eating just\none 2 x 2-inch square. On average, it can take from 30 minutes to 90\nminutes for edibles to affect anyone who eats them, so someone new to\nmarijuana treats of any kind should wait about that long before having\nanother delicious marijuana Rice Krispies treat.\n\n[Photo credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/branditressler/5315039798/in/photolist-96EYad-9Bd1Rd-4b4pdE-9BaakH-9BaapH-9BaanZ-4kgsZn-9Ba8ET-9Bd3CU-9BaaoT-groVTd-grrmzR-grqyjs-grp3Kh-9fTDcX-8ePefd-grrPAY-gpd5tk-o6M1yP-bv3CYi-5v7K8d-9Bd1T1-pnV7zL-5YuRjU-7CPw9u-7neEiZ-9Bd3zu-3jnujw-5YuR31-bv3CV8-bv3CWR-7FX8DC-dKpY58-6HAHur-gGZwf8-dKvr5b-f39Cpo-grr4yt-gGYM8j-bPfMsT-c7uRy-c7uRA-njBbwA-4h1RdE-sD1H7-aiXTfk-gGZvNX-dKpXNR-dioV14-8hYoB8)\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.492537313432836,"src":"/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/ee604/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png","srcSet":"/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/69585/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png 200w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/497c6/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png 400w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/ee604/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png 800w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/d93e2/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png 906w","srcWebp":"/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/58556/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/61e93/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp 200w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/1f5c5/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp 400w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/58556/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp 800w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/5b058/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp 906w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2154-markdown","title":"Cooking With Cannabis","slug":"cooking-with-cannabis","content":"For people who want to consume marijuana but don't want to inhale it,\ncooking with the herb is a fantastic alternative. There are literally\nhundreds of ways to cook with cannabis, and consumers who learn to make\ntasty edibles in their own kitchens will enjoy experimenting with new\nrecipes for years to come. Here's an overview of what budding marijuana\nchefs need to know.\n\n**Cannabis Cooking 101**\n\nCooking with cannabis is a little more complicated than taking the\nentire plant and tossing it into brownie batter. In addition to\nproducing some unfortunate-tasting brownies nobody would want to eat,\ndoing so would also defeat the purpose of cooking with cannabis, as the\nherb needs to be processed (via heat) in order to decarboxylate and\nbecome psychoactive. Left to its own devices, the human body can't\ndigest the THC found in raw cannabis. Because of this, most [cannabis\nrecipes](https://www.hellomd.com/learn/recipes-and-diy)\nrequire a form of cannabis extract, such as cannabutter or\ncannabis-infused oil.\n\nBecause cannabis is fat-soluble (stored in fat), it must always be\ncooked with some form of fat -- like butter, an oil, or milk. This\nallows the compounds within the cannabis to release into the fat,\nmaximizing the effects of the plant and creating a better-tasting\nedible.\n\n**The Process of Decarboxylation**\n\n[Decarboxylation](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56de6bd6c60fd50008000081/decarboxylating-marijuana-why-its-important) is the process cannabis must go through *before* being\nused for cooking, and also before being included in any form of\ncannabutter or cannabis-infused oil. Because raw cannabis contains a\nmultitude of compounds that are not psychoactive (THCA, for example), it\nmust be heated in order to change the chemical structure of the herb and\nactivate the psychoactive compounds within it.\n\nDecarboxylation is a simple process that can easily be done at home.\nMost consumers choose to decarboxylate their cannabis by laying it out\non a lined cookie sheet and baking it at low temperatures for a long\nperiod of time. At the end of the baking period, the cannabis becomes\ncrumbly and dry. At this point, it is ground in a food processor and can\nbe included in a variety of different extractions.\n\nWhile decarboxylation may seem like an added step in the journey toward\nhomemade cannabis cuisine, it's something consumers who want to cook\nwith cannabis must do in order to ensure a quality product.\n\n**Extracting Cannabis**\n\nCannabis must always be processed with heat before cooking, and there\nare several methods of doing so. The two most popular methods of\nextracting cannabis at home are by making cannabutter (cannabis-infused\nbutter) and cannabis-infused oil.\n\nWhile the THC in cannabis doesn't bind to water, it binds to fats very\nwell. This means processing the cannabis in the form of heated butter or\noil activates the psychoactive compounds within the plant, preserves the\n[terpenes](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/562948683138320006d70000/terpenes-that-augment-the-healing-power-of-cannabis)\n(the heat-sensitive oils and compounds within marijuana that give the\nplant its taste and smell), and produces a simple, tasty, and\neasy-to-use method of incorporating cannabis into a variety of meals and\ndishes. Most consumers enjoy experimenting with both cannabis-infused\noil and cannabutter, each offering ease of use and versatility.\n\n**Cannabutter**\n\nCannabutter is a favorite of cannabis consumers everywhere. Easy to use\non everything from toast to homemade cookies, cannabutter is a versatile\nmethod of extracting cannabis at home. Check out our [cannabutter\nrecipe](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter).\n\n**Cannabis-infused oil**\n\nSimple, tasty, versatile, and easy to use, cannabis-infused oil can\neasily be used as a replacement for normal cooking oil in recipes like\nbrownies and other baked goods. It can also be used in things like salad\ndressings and garnishes. See our [recipe for marijuana-infused\noil](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a34777c100a820006562f0a/diy-recipe-marijuana-infused-cooking-oil).\n\n**Measuring Cannabis for Cooking**\n\nOne of the biggest struggles home cannabis cooks face is accurately\nmeasuring the amount of marijuana to include in a recipe. Homemade\nedibles that contain too much cannabis produce an uncomfortable high,\nwhile homemade edibles that don't contain enough cannabis are simply\ndisappointing. Fortunately, it's easy to calculate cannabis levels\ncorrectly by using a simple guide.\n\nAs a general rule, 1 teaspoon of cannabis butter or cannabis-infused oil\ncontains 10 milligrams of cannabis, which is a good introductory serving\n(people who have never used cannabis before will be more comfortable\naround 5 milligrams per serving). If the consumer would like to alter\nthe serving size as they become more experienced with homemade edibles,\nthey should be sure to start off slowly and move up gradually.\n\n**What to Expect From Cannabis Edibles**\n\nConsumers who have never eaten marijuana before are often shocked by how\ndifferent the effects can be from smoking. In addition to producing a\ndifferent high, consuming edibles produces effects that last [much longer\nthan they would](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56bd2f8ffe78ef000c0000a5/marijuana-edibles-vs-flowers) after inhalation. Here are some general guidelines about\nwhat to expect from homemade edibles:\n\n- Effects of the edibles are generally felt within 30 minutes to three\n hours after consumption of the edible.\n- Effects usually begin with relaxation and may become a \"head high,\"\n depending upon which strain of marijuana the consumer is using.\n- People who do not enjoy the effects of edibles can drink citrus\n fruit juice (such as orange or grapefruit) or consume a\n [high-CBD](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b4fec6ea6a2d000c000077/high-cbd-marijuana-strains)\n product to calm the effects.\n\nCooking with cannabis is a fantastic way for consumers to expand their\ntoolbox of marijuana tricks and create some tasty, unique edibles at\nhome. From brownies to salad dressings and everything in between,\nthere's no question that cooking with cannabis is a skill every\nmarijuana aficionado should master.\n\nSome simple and popular recipes include:\n\n- [Coconut Oil](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56d69dde22efe4000b00004c/how-to-make-marijuana-coconut-oil-recipe)\n- [Sugar Cookies](https://hellomd.com/health-wellness/56f5a089f873bb0008000010/diy-recipe-cannabis-infused-sugar-cookies)\n- [Fire Crackers](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56de6921c60fd5000c00007d/marijuana-fire-crackers-recipe)\n- [Chocolate Chip Cookies](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56dd799696763100080000b4/marijuana-chocolate-chip-cookies-recipe)\n- [Garlic Bread](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56dbb8d7cdbd0a000c0000ac/cheesy-marijuana-garlic-bread-recipe)\n- [Brownies](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56ce39abde99bd000c0000bb/how-to-make-marijuana-brownies-recipe)\n- [Cannabis Infused Tea](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b946413c7953000800007d/diy-recipe-marijuana-infused-tea)\n- [Cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter)\n- [Cannabis Infused Oil](https://hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b3979094aec0000c000043/diy-how-to-make-cannabis-infused-cooking-oil)\n\n\n[Photo Credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/42954113@N00/5711890071/in/photolist-3G984z-q278BB-rnryRn-8ytHbH-ja25Li-5TZpxZ-7ANMA-amp2Sm-4z9qH4-77SLK1-amp4aL-9GJVVi-ammeQZ-9mowhT-7mc14U-472faG-apPgDq-8gUnB-5cazqp-nAusb-75N1TP-qtuzP9-oPNwHr-4HSXga-74Xit-9NqeZu-veDPq-5FNH6C-9BY99b-9sgKiH-4jQ775-e52n4L-9GSExz-b6rHvi-7pW2g8-9xRVSv-4zW5nF-oDywoe-7oXv6H-7pW2rK-4YuCHB-amp5cf-7LJmdV-dsSoNu-akM31Z-amp2zA-ammgHe-75N23i-amkFEu-5RSoWt)","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.5384615384615385,"src":"/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/ee604/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.png","srcSet":"/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/69585/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.png 200w,\n/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/497c6/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.png 400w,\n/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/ee604/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.png 800w,\n/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/86756/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.png 997w","srcWebp":"/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/58556/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/61e93/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.webp 200w,\n/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/1f5c5/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.webp 400w,\n/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/58556/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.webp 800w,\n/static/e9efb9ed57feee0803657262edd03330/a2a2c/1e3ca08154df7642b36050da41ccd227.webp 997w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2079-markdown","title":"DIY Recipe: Cannabis-Infused Sugar Cookies","slug":"diy-recipe-cannabis-infused-sugar-cookies","content":"The past couple of years have been a holiday downer - nothing kills a festive mood like shelter-in-place and rolling lockdowns. But, as we wind down 2021, and the world slowly reopens, friends and family are gathering again to celebrate the holidays with renewed spirit. We're excited by the prospect, so we've whipped up this cannabis-infused sugar cookie recipe to kickstart the holiday season and fill your home with the scent of freshly baked cookies.\n\nOf course, you can buy sugar cookies at the store, but if you’re so inclined, you can follow this easy recipe to make these cannabis cookies at home. Learning how to make sugar cookies from scratch is a great pastime and can enhance the tasting experience. If you want to make the cookies more healthy and wholesome, you can easily modify the recipe ingredients.\n\nOne way to modify the recipe is to use marijuana-infused butter, or\n[cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter),\ninstead of regular butter. Baking with cannabutter is one of the easiest\nways to reap the medicinal benefits of marijuana. People with chronic\npain often prefer eating medical marijuana as it tends to produce stronger,\nlonger-lasting effects. This means that they don’t have to consume\nmarijuana as often.\n\n\nWithout further ado, here’s a simple recipe incorporating marijuana\ninto sugar cookies. (If time is short, use ready-made frosting. It’s\njust as delicious as homemade frosting and makes decorating cookies\na cinch.)\n\n### Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Sugar Cookies\n\n**Makes 24 cookies**\n\n- 2 1/2 cups of flour, plus extra for rolling\n- 1 cup sugar\n- 1 cup [cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter)\n- 1 egg\n- 1 tsp baking powder\n- 1 tsp vanilla extract\n- 1 tsp salt\n\n### Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Sugar Cookie Frosting\n\n- 2 cups sugar\n- 1/4 cup of shortening\n- 2 1/2 tablespoons milk\n- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract\n- 1–2 tsp cannabutter\n- A few drops of food coloring\n\n### How to Make Cannabis-Infused Sugar Cookies\n\n1. To make the cookies, beat the eggs, sugar, cannabutter and vanilla\n extract in a large bowl until thoroughly combined.\n2. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt.\n3. Add the dry ingredients to the cannabutter mixture little by little,\n stirring slowly and continuously until all of the ingredients are\n incorporated and the mixture becomes a smooth dough.\n4. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.\n Covering the dough with plastic wrap helps prevent the dough from\n drying out and forming a skin.\n5. Remove dough from the refrigerator and preheat the oven to 375\n degrees F.\n6. Tip the dough out of the bowl onto a floured surface and roll until\n It’s approximately 1/3-inch thick.\n7. Cut dough into shapes with cookie cutters.\n8. Place cookies 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.\n9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until lightly golden brown.\n10. Remove the cannabis cookies from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to\n cool completely before frosting.\n11. To frost, combine the sugar and shortening in a large bowl\n until smooth.\n12. Mix in the milk and vanilla extract until the desired consistency\n is reached. Consider adding 1–2 teaspoons of cannabutter to thicken\n runny frosting and increase the potency of the cookies.\n13. Add a few drops of food coloring, if desired.\n14. Spread the frosting evenly over the cookies using a butter knife\n or spreader.\n\nTip: For less potent cannabis cookies, substitute any portion of the cannabutter\nwith regular butter in this recipe.\n\nCannabis-infused sugar cookies are quick and easy to make. They make the\nperfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. If not eating\nimmediately, store the marijuana cookies in an airtight container, layered between\nparchment paper, and either refrigerate or freeze.\n\nPhoto credit: [Mischelle](https://www.flickr.com/photos/evanmischelle/) \n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56201c206430320006bb0000/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. This allows people to enjoy the psychoactive properties of\ncannabis and put together tastier and more potent homemade edibles.\nHere's what you need to know about the decarboxylation process.\n\n### Why Decarboxylate?\n\nWhen cannabis is in its raw state, it contains a great deal of a\ncompound called [THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid), which has a variety\nof medical\nbenefits](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/584f78817f091000089c44a4/the-medicinal-benefits-of-thca)\nbut doesn't produce psychoactive effects. When cannabis is heated,\nhowever, it goes through the process of decarboxylation, which releases\nthe carbon dioxide within the compound, turning THCA to psychoactive\n[THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56201c206430320006bb0000/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana). This allows consumers to enjoy the full range of\npsychoactive effects that cannabis has to offer, and is a necessary step\nfor those who intend to cook with marijuana.\n\n### Decarboxylating Cannabis Without Damaging Terpenes\n\nWhen beginning the decarboxylation process, one of the most important\nthings to keep in mind is temperature. While marijuana needs heat in\norder to decarboxylate properly, too much heat can damage the delicate\ncompounds within cannabis, burning it and making it smell and taste\ncharred and bitter. Because of this, low, slow heat is best. Lower\ntemperatures allow the cannabis to decarboxylate properly without\ncompromising the delicate terpenes (the compounds and oils that give\ndifferent strains of cannabis their distinct tastes and smells)\ncontained within it.\n\nIn addition to providing a satisfactory olfactory and oral experience\nfor marijuana aficionados, terpenes also possess a [wide range of\nbenefits](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/terpenes-that-augment-the-healing-power-of-cannabis),\nfrom stress relief to increased focus. Heating marijuana on a flame\nthat's too high can damage the terpenes enough to destroy those rare and\nsought-after health benefits.\n\n### How to Decarboxylate Cannabis\n\nWhile decarboxylation may seem like a difficult process, it's easy to do\nat home using simple tools and your own oven. Just follow these\ndirections:\n\n1. Preheat your oven to 240 degrees F.\n2. Break the cannabis plant into small pieces, making sure to break up\n the buds and flowers into small chunks. Keep in mind that the\n decarboxylation process is the same no matter how much cannabis you\n choose to use.\n3. Spread the pieces of marijuana out into a single layer on a rimmed\n cookie sheet. Don't leave any empty space in the pan or pile\n marijuana into double layers, as this will interrupt the\n decarboxylation process.\n4. Bake the marijuana for 30-40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to\n ensure the herb is baking evenly.\n5. When the cannabis begins to reach a rich, dark color and looks dry,\n remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the cannabis to cool\n at room temperature. If you're unsure whether the cannabis is done,\n touch it. Cannabis that has properly decarboxylated should be dry\n and crumbly to the touch, but not black or crispy.\n6. Once the cannabis has cooled completely, transfer it to a\n food processor. Pulse the marijuana in a food processor until it's\n coarsely ground (like coarse coffee grounds). Be careful to avoid\n processing the marijuana too much or else you'll wind up with a fine\n powder that's difficult to sift. Once the marijuana is ground\n properly, store it in a plastic zip bag or an airtight Tupperware\n container for use in extractions and homemade edibles, like\n [cannabis-infused\n butter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter).\n\n### Tips for Effective Marijuana Decarboxylation\n\nIn order to ensure you're decarboxylating your marijuana properly,\nfollow these tips:\n\n- **Decarboxylate everything you plan to cook.** Because\n active (post-decarboxylation) CBD and THC have myriad health\n benefits, as well as [anti-cancer\n properties](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5596a4413264380006220000/kicking-cancer-and-chemotherapy-symptoms-with-cannabis),\n decarboxylating all marijuana before cooking with it is a great way\n to ensure tastier edibles that are also better healthier. While raw\n cannabis is ideal for inhalation, decarboxylated cannabis is the\n go-to marijuana form for cooking.\n- **Use an oven.** Many people who are decarboxylating cannabis for\n the first time try to decarboxylate small batches of marijuana using\n a simple lighter or torch. Unfortunately, this is an uneven heating\n method that makes it easy to burn some marijuana while leaving the\n rest raw. To avoid this, always head straight to the oven for your\n decarboxylation needs. In addition to providing more even heating\n and a higher-quality end product, the oven makes the entire\n decarboxylation process simple and is the perfect way to process a\n large amount of marijuana at one time.\n- **Allow the marijuana to cool completely.** Once newly\n decarboxylated marijuana has left the oven, it's important to allow\n it to cool completely. This preserves the terpenes and makes the\n marijuana easier to handle.\n\nWhile decarboxylation isn't a word found in many novice cannabis users'\nvocabularies, this simple process is an important tool to transform the\nnon-psychoactive compounds of cannabis into psychoactive ones.\nDecarboxylation is a must for anyone who intends to cook with cannabis,\nas it allows consumers of edibles to reap all of the medical and\npsychoactive properties of cannabis in a tasty package. For experienced\ncannabis consumers and novices alike, decarboxylation is an important\ntool for every cannabis lover to have in his or her toolbox.\n\n[Photo credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/smokershighlife/4234160694/in/photolist-s4rX5x-7sabsA-qMhpoA-oN1Z3g-823WWa-nTLTFi-cupST-fbpxXX-nhA5Px-5Vsx7R-fEW94R-CEYfpM-f5ppT-bPdH2D-f5Eaxw-a9onL4-ydUWP-iTmtp2-ABVdib-bb3tLe-dZ6oeE-7XzWsB-bA6H8Y-4yfD3C-98zxki-9injY9-dPxP9Q-9SqWW9-2uvZvP-duVoLd-k1H7g-5Q5oAe-bHJr8F-8Pomnt-bHJrDi-i5cGFF-qoz67P-8BS2W8-buPE5d-9EUzig-8eVSn4-98cxAR-7esNzp-fLd8Qs-7aC9CT-9GtqDK-cAKhKo-dPUiyE-bP1mZa-eiCYKr)","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.4388489208633093,"src":"/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/ee604/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png","srcSet":"/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/69585/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 200w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/497c6/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 400w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/ee604/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 800w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/f3583/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 1200w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/85d1e/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 1474w","srcWebp":"/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/58556/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/61e93/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 200w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/1f5c5/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 400w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/58556/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 800w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/99238/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 1200w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/48311/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 1474w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_1977-markdown","title":"Marijuana Fire Crackers: Recipe","slug":"marijuana-fire-crackers-recipe","content":"Second only to the infamous pot brownie, marijuana fire crackers are one\r\nof the most well-known cannabis-infused treats. Made of crispy crackers,\r\nyummy spread and a little something extra, they're a go-to for many an\r\nedible enthusiast, and it's no secret why. In addition to being tasty,\r\nthey're versatile. Firecrackers can be either sweet or savory, depending\r\non what's desired. For the latter, classic peanut butter and salty snack\r\ncrackers pair well. For something a little sweeter, try hazelnut spread\r\non graham crackers. Or mix the two for a new take on an old classic!\r\nWhether firecrackers are an old favorite or a new discovery, this easy\r\nrecipe is a great guide to making a special treat.\r\n\r\n**Ingredients**\r\n\r\n- 8 graham crackers or snack crackers (such as Ritz or saltines)\r\n- 8 tablespoons natural peanut butter or hazelnut spread (such\r\n as Nutella)\r\n- 0.5 grams marijuana\r\n\r\n**Procedure**\r\n\r\n1. Before getting started, preheat the oven to 320 degrees Fahrenheit.\r\n This will give it a chance to warm up while you prepare\r\n the firecrackers.\r\n2. First things first: prepare the marijuana. It must be cut into very\r\n fine pieces, and there are a couple of ways to do this. A marijuana\r\n grinder is the easiest method. Simply break the bud apart by hand\r\n and then grind the weed into a very fine, almost\r\n powdery consistency. Otherwise, placing the bud into a shot glass or\r\n cup and cutting it with regular scissors works almost as well. Once\r\n it's ground up or chopped finely, it's time to prepare\r\n the firecrackers.\r\n3. Stir the marijuana into the peanut butter or hazelnut spread so the\r\n bits of weed are coated with it on all sides. If the spread is\r\n difficult to stir, microwaving it for about 10 seconds before adding\r\n the marijuana will help soften it.\r\n4. Spread 1 tablespoon of the mixture onto each cracker. (A note on\r\n choosing peanut butter: organic peanut butter with lots of oil\r\n works best. This is because THC, the active ingredient in marijuana,\r\n is oil-soluble. It needs a fair amount of oil to dissolve at the\r\n rate necessary for effective edibles, so look for peanut butter that\r\n has oil at the top of the jar rather than heavily processed peanut\r\n butter like Skippy or Jif. Once the oil layer is stirred in, it will\r\n be perfect for use in this recipe. Additionally, smooth peanut\r\n butter tends to work better for this recipe as the chunks can't\r\n absorb the cannabis oil very well.)\r\n5. Place one coated cracker on top of another so the peanut butter or\r\n spread is in the middle, forming sandwiches. Repeat to produce four\r\n cracker sandwiches.\r\n6. Arrange the cracker sandwiches on a cookie sheet with space in\r\n between each and cover the entire sheet with aluminum foil to\r\n prevent burning.\r\n7. Place the cookie sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20\r\n minutes, checking halfway through. Ovens may cook at different\r\n rates, so keep an eye on it to ensure the crackers don't burn.\r\n\r\nLastly, it can be tempting to use more marijuana to make the\r\nfirecrackers stronger. However, doing so will alter the oil-to-cannabis\r\nratio, meaning that all of the THC may not be dissolved. In layman's\r\nterms, this will only waste weed. It tends to produce stronger, longer-lasting effects\r\nbecause the liver metabolizes the cannabinoids before they reach the\r\nbrain. Cooking with marijuana-infused butter, or\r\n[cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-infused-butter-recipe-make-your-own),\r\nis one of the easiest ways to reap the benefits of medical marijuana.\r\nCannabutter is frequently used in baking, and it is particularly popular\r\nas a substitute for regular butter. Here is an easy way to incorporate\r\nit into cheesy garlic bread. (If you're in a rush, use store-bought\r\nbaguettes. Homemade is delicious, but the proofing time is lengthy.)\r\n\r\n**Ingredients**\r\n\r\n### For two mini baguettes\r\n\r\n- 9 ounces strong white flour, plus extra for dusting\r\n- ¼ ounce salt\r\n- ¼ ounce instant dry yeast\r\n- 1 fluid ounce olive oil, plus extra for oiling\r\n- 6 fluid ounces water\r\n\r\n### For the cheesy garlic topping\r\n\r\n- 3½ ounces cannabutter\r\n- 1 head garlic, cloves separated and peeled\r\n- 4½ ounces buffalo mozzarella, roughly chopped or shredded\r\n- handful any combination of finely chopped parsley, rosemary, basil\r\n and marjoram\r\n\r\n**Method**\r\n\r\n1. To make the baguettes, place the flour, salt, yeast, olive oil and ¾\r\n of the water into a stand mixer with a dough hook attached. Always\r\n put the flour in the mixer first, then add the yeast and the salt to\r\n opposite sides of the bowl. This is important because the salt can\r\n decrease yeast activity.\r\n2. Start mixing the ingredients at a slow speed, gradually adding the\r\n rest of the water until the mixture becomes a smooth dough. This\r\n should take about 5 minutes.\r\n3. Meanwhile, wipe down the inside of a large mixing bowl with extra\r\n olive oil. Set aside.\r\n4. When the dough is ready, tip it into the oiled bowl, cover with\r\n plastic food wrap and leave to proof for 2 hours. Covering the dough\r\n with food wrap helps prevent the dough from drying out and forming\r\n a skin.\r\n5. Prep your surface with oil before tipping the dough out of the bowl.\r\n With flour-dusted hands, divide the dough into two equal portions.\r\n6. Using the heels of the hands, repeatedly fold one portion of the\r\n dough in on itself. This makes the dough easier to handle and shape\r\n and helps create a uniform texture. Repeat for the second portion.\r\n7. Stretch and fold one portion of dough before rolling it into a\r\n baguette shape. Repeat for the second portion.\r\n8. Place the baguettes on a large baking tray, cover with plastic food\r\n wrap and leave to proof until the baguettes have doubled in size.\r\n9. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and place a roasting dish\r\n filled with water on the floor of the oven. This will create the\r\n steam required to produce baguettes with a glossy crust.\r\n10. Once the baguettes have proofed, score the top of each three times\r\n along its length on the diagonal, using a sharp knife.\r\n11. Bake the baguettes for 30 minutes. Then lower the temperature to 400\r\n degrees and cook for a further 10 minutes, until golden brown.\r\n12. Remove the baguettes from the oven and leave to cool.\r\n13. While waiting for the baguettes to cool, place the ingredients for\r\n the cheesy garlic topping into a food processor and blend until\r\n completely mixed.\r\n14. Once the baguettes have cooled, preheat the broiler to hot.\r\n15. Cut the baguettes into 1-inch diagonal slices and use a flat knife\r\n to spread the cheesy garlic mixture on the slices.\r\n16. Put the slices under the broiler and cook until the cheese\r\n has melted. Watch carefully to avoid burning.\r\n17. Serve immediately.\r\n\r\nCheesy marijuana garlic bread is easy to make and tastes delicious.\r\nServe it up as an appetizer or as an accompaniment to a main course.\r\n\r\n[Photo Credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/23126594@N00/213528724/in/photolist-jSoDJ-6RG5Ud-2auwLB-6hQ6S1-659En2-6b66W3-6b67nQ-6b66w5-6b1VZx-7XpijV-cbVxtq-8uXQCK-6b1VxZ-6b1Wsp-a9F7Ru-6gwy7t-6jFGoR-mkwZp9-dwcrWP-a6mSNK-9xSgma-6w6uv1-ptt5ey-6g7N1R-Ho4zK-34LMRf-5Ysht4-7gKA5Z-eFnGX-2qRXAM-7AVWUW-dPWX7e-9eq77U-bCVGLP-gGKiF-8kkT72-8ci1hb-kVQHd-vHSWK-ixJHrK-644vkt-8ceCZg-oyAm4A-4svQu7-qo3vi-71Ac6h-6R3fGZ-5cD5Jm-6Vt2Mq-7gFDMH)\r\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.342281879194631,"src":"/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/997ff/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.png","srcSet":"/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/69585/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.png 200w,\n/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/497c6/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.png 400w,\n/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/997ff/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.png 796w","srcWebp":"/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/bffd3/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/61e93/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.webp 200w,\n/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/1f5c5/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.webp 400w,\n/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/bffd3/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.webp 796w","sizes":"(max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2007-markdown","title":"How to Make Marijuana Coconut Oil: Recipe","slug":"how-to-make-marijuana-coconut-oil-recipe","content":"Marijuana coconut oil is an adaptable food additive that provides an\r\nenjoyable way to medicate with cannabis. Eat it by itself or use it when\r\npreparing baked goods, fried foods or salad dressings. Cooks can\r\nsubstitute marijuana coconut oil in almost any recipe that calls for\r\nbutter, shortening or vegetable oil. Many patients experience\r\nlonger-lasting effects from ingesting this oil than from inhaling\r\ncannabis preparations.\r\n\r\nTo benefit from the medicinal properties of marijuana in food, first\r\ninfuse the marijuana into a type of fat like butter, oil or milk. Since\r\nTHC is fat-soluble, not water-soluble, a person cannot simply dump raw\r\nmarijuana leaves into the bowl of ingredients. The taste is unappealing,\r\nand the digestive system is unable to process the THC in its raw form.\r\n\r\nCreating marijuana coconut oil takes some time, but it's relatively\r\nsimple. For those who want a milder taste to their oil, soak the leaves\r\nin water overnight and then dry them before grinding. This process\r\nremoves much of the chlorophyll that causes the strong flavor.\r\n\r\n**Gather Your Ingredients:**\r\n\r\n- 1 pound organic, unrefined coconut oil\r\n- 1-3 ounces finely ground, dried marijuana\r\n- water\r\n- slow cooker\r\n- fine-mesh metal strainer\r\n- cheesecloth\r\n- cooking thermometer\r\n\r\n**The Process:**\r\n\r\n1\\. Put coconut oil into the slow cooker and add enough water to make the\r\noil float. Then turn the slow cooker to the highest setting. Wait until\r\nthe oil is in a liquid state.\r\n\r\n2\\. Mix the ground marijuana in gently, stirring the mixture to\r\ncompletely soak up the powder. If the powder is not combining properly,\r\none can add a little more water to the slow cooker.\r\n\r\n3\\. Place a cooking thermometer into the liquid and put the lid on the\r\nslow cooker. Keep a close eye on the process at this point. As soon as\r\nthe temperature reaches 250 degrees Fahrenheit, turn the heat setting to\r\n\"low.\" Stir the mixture gently and thoroughly.\r\n\r\n4\\. Continue to check on the mixture and stir it occasionally. Keep the\r\ntemperature of the liquid between 250 and 270 degrees Fahrenheit. It is\r\npossible that the slow cooker will need to stay on the \"warm\" setting in\r\norder to regulate the temperature. In all events, do not let the mixture\r\nreach 320 degrees Fahrenheit, or the THC will burn off or deteriorate.\r\nDuring this time, make sure there is enough water to cover the marijuana\r\ncompletely. Add more water if necessary.\r\n\r\n5\\. After the mixture sits for 12 hours, turn the heat off. Remove from\r\nthe slow cooker and allow the mixture to cool enough to pour it safely.\r\n\r\n6\\. Prepare your straining station. Place the metal strainer in a large\r\nbowl; then cover the strainer with a double layer of cheesecloths.\r\nSlowly pour the mixture into the strainer. Use a flexible spatula to\r\nscrape the remaining marijuana out of the slow cooker. Once the liquid\r\nhas poured through the cheesecloth completely, wrap the cheesecloth\r\naround the spent marijuana and twist to wring out any remaining liquid.\r\nSome keep the used marijuana to use it in a compress later.\r\n\r\n7\\. Place the bowl of oil in the refrigerator for several hours. Once\r\ncooled, the oil will rise above the water. Use a flat metal spatula to\r\npry the oil out of the bowl. It should come out easily in one piece.\r\n\r\n8\\. Store the prepared marijuana oil in an airtight container either in\r\nthe refrigerator or at room temperature below 75 degrees.\r\n\r\nSpread the marijuana coconut oil on bread, add it to your next batch of\r\ncookies, or use it as a massage oil. This recipe is so versatile it's\r\neasy to see why it is a favorite in the cannabis community.\r\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.5873015873015872,"src":"/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/ee604/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png","srcSet":"/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/69585/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png 200w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/497c6/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png 400w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/ee604/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png 800w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/035d9/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png 990w","srcWebp":"/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/58556/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/61e93/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp 200w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/1f5c5/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp 400w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/58556/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp 800w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/8b5b8/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp 990w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2011-markdown","title":"How to Make Marijuana Brownies: Recipe","slug":"how-to-make-marijuana-brownies-recipe","content":"Marijuana brownies are a tasty, simple and efficient way of consuming\ncannabis. Cool for 40 minutes before eating.\n\n**Tips and Tricks for Great Brownies**\n\n- **Don't overbake.** Overbaking can damage the active compounds in\n the cannabutter, changing the potency of your brownies. Plus, when\n you overbake brownies, you run the risk of ending up with charred\n chunks of chocolate, which nobody likes.\n\n<!-- -->\n\n- **Allow to cool completely.** Cannabis connoisseurs will tell you\n that marijuana brownies are best consumed when allowed to cool in a\n refrigerator overnight. Before cutting your marijuana brownies,\n remove them from the refrigerator and allow them to come to\n room temperature.\n\n<!-- -->\n\n- **Don't be afraid to experiment.** Once you've made cannabis\n brownies a few times, it's fun to experiment with different forms\n of cannabis. Rather than using cannabis butter, for example, you can\n easily use cannabis oil. Simply pick up a box of brownie mix at the\n store, and use the marijuana oil in place of regular cooking oil. To\n add an extra flavor profile to your brownies, stir in a generous\n handful of walnuts immediately before spooning the batter into the\n greased pan.\n\n<!-- -->\n\n- **Be sure to strain**. If you're using homemade cannabis oil rather\n than butter in your brownies, be sure to strain any cooked marijuana\n particulate from the oil before using it. This will make your\n brownies taste better and prevent you from getting a mouthful of\n cannabis particulate when you bite into your first brownie.\n\n<!-- -->\n\n- **Store correctly.** Keep your marijuana brownies in an airtight\n container at room temperature. To be [safe and\n responsible](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a5cfdb5c7e0180007a78273/5-tips-to-reduce-the-effects-of-having-too-much-cannabis),\n be sure to label your marijuana-infused brownies so that nobody\n unknowingly consumes one.\n\nWhile making marijuana brownies may seem like the domain of seasoned\ncannabis aficionados, the process is simple and perfect for those who\nhave never cooked with cannabis before. While it may take some time to\nproduce the perfect homemade cannabis brownie, learning is half the fun.\n\n[Photo Credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/20747313@N00/364392094/in/photolist-ycB5j-j7Mubn-4g86sq-4S5Nwi-9cPy5t-RkM4C-aSAZFZ-7aeVt-ycB5Z-7NNwD9-34Gjp-7NJxPK-9vmHxt-9vmHAp-9vpJaC-aouna7-8cQ9K9-78W3c6-4x33Rq-KSw95-7CwZdh-zCvD3-7NJxyK-7wGvYR-zCvEP-ycB4h-D6oKc-bzwmSX-ycB3H-2XvPSR-6hLmTX-4cwv5x-5im9Ar-47xqRH-7fuhdq-811JFm-k7Ctn-811JCq-aor7ND-2K4Qcy-48KME2-7M8ivR-tqB3t-zCvEa-cWp8xf-51sDTz-6VcNuC-f4usBR-3JEeJp-vftQx)\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.342281879194631,"src":"/static/93280dd709898b59a52de546059e3842/a0402/46db7fdf24f0f6ea4f8fd19a3f85406c.png","srcSet":"/static/93280dd709898b59a52de546059e3842/69585/46db7fdf24f0f6ea4f8fd19a3f85406c.png 200w,\n/static/93280dd709898b59a52de546059e3842/497c6/46db7fdf24f0f6ea4f8fd19a3f85406c.png 400w,\n/static/93280dd709898b59a52de546059e3842/a0402/46db7fdf24f0f6ea4f8fd19a3f85406c.png 635w","srcWebp":"/static/93280dd709898b59a52de546059e3842/bab78/46db7fdf24f0f6ea4f8fd19a3f85406c.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/93280dd709898b59a52de546059e3842/61e93/46db7fdf24f0f6ea4f8fd19a3f85406c.webp 200w,\n/static/93280dd709898b59a52de546059e3842/1f5c5/46db7fdf24f0f6ea4f8fd19a3f85406c.webp 400w,\n/static/93280dd709898b59a52de546059e3842/bab78/46db7fdf24f0f6ea4f8fd19a3f85406c.webp 635w","sizes":"(max-width: 635px) 100vw, 635px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2033-markdown","title":"Marijuana Edibles vs. Flowers","slug":"marijuana-edibles-vs-flowers","content":"Should somebody eat or smoke their medical cannabis? It's a good\nquestion, as patients today have a choice in how they get their\ncannabis. Two of these options are flowers, also known as buds, and\nedibles, which are foodstuffs that contain cannabis. The best choice\ndepends on a number of factors, including a patient's diagnosis,\nprescription and personal preference regarding delivery method. Here's a\nlook at the differences between flowers and edibles to help patients\nunderstand their options.\n\n**THC Metabolism**\n\nBoth flowers and edibles contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), one of the\nmost common cannabinoids in medical marijuana and the chemical\nresponsible for the psychoactive effects of the plant. THC has been used\nto treat [pain](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5cb960fcc56378f60684a367/3-popular-questions-about-cbd-and-chronic-pain-answered),\n[nausea](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/55a5842c6636300006510000/marijuana-shows-promise-as-a-treatment-for-chemotherapy-induced-nausea),\n[mood disorders](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/55c10d093166350006110000/bipolar-disorder-is-marijuana-a-natural-mood-stabilizer),\n[inflammation](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5abeae81f24d1300077ccbaf/the-powerful-anti-inflammatory-effects-of-cannabis),\n[appetite\nloss](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/55b14a863330370006050000/loss-of-appetite-from-cancer)\nand more. Even though both flowers and edibles contain THC, the way this\nchemical is metabolized depends on whether it's smoked or ingested. When\n[smoked](http://jat.oxfordjournals.org/content/16/5/276.long), THC moves\nquickly through the lungs into the bloodstream and then to the brain.\nThe effects are rapid, and occur within\n[minutes](http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1038/clpt.1992.100/abstract;jsessionid=5F398D0C4D37AFDEF9AFDCC10B1BE6F8.f04t01)\nof the first inhalation. The effects of ingesting cannabis are much\nslower, as the THC must pass through the digestive system before\nreaching the bloodstream. During this process, the liver changes the THC\ninto\n[11-hydroxy-THC](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3196989/),\nwhich can cause a more-intense high than THC that's inhaled.\n\n**Effects and Duration**\n\nIn addition to rapid onset, inhaled THC effects wear off in 30 to 60\nminutes. [Ingested\nTHC](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2689518/# R32) effects\ncan take between 30 minutes and two hours to be felt and can take\nseveral hours to wear off.\n\nThe more intense high associated with ingested THC has been described as\na more [physical\nhigh](http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/05/08/marijuana-pot-edibles-thc-legalized-recreational/8463787/),\nor body high, than that of inhaled THC. This may be caused by the\n11-hydroxy-THC, but it may also result from an inadvertent overdose --\npeople who aren't used to edibles may not know that there's a lag\nbetween ingestion and effect, and this often causes them to overindulge.\n\n**Potency**\n\nToday's cannabis is higher in THC than cannabis that was cultivated in\nthe past. An [American Chemical Society\nstudy](http://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/pressroom/newsreleases/2015/march/legalizing-marijuana-and-the-new-science-of-weed-video.html)\nfound that THC potency in medical marijuana is approaching 30 percent --\nthree times higher than it was 30 years ago.\n\nThis higher concentration in plants also means a potential for higher\nconcentration in edibles. Edibles are made with [cannabis\nconcentrate](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b0f2466d677f000b000050/what-is-cannabis-wax-shatter-and-oil).\nThe process of extracting the cannabinoids has been shown to increase\npotency, the percent of active cannabinoids, by [40-80\npercent](http://www.dea.gov/pr/multimedia-library/publications/marijuana-concentrates.pdf).\n\nBecause of the increase in intensity and the higher potency, it is\nrecommended that people using edibles [start\nsmall](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/57aa569b4059f80007e22798/dosing-cannabis-edibles-safely).\nThey should only consume a product containing less than 2.5 mg of THC\nand recognize that it will take at least an hour before they feel any\neffects.\n\n**Dosing**\n\nEdibles are unpredictable with regard to dosing. This is due to a number\nof factors:\n\n- Ingestion only delivers between 10 and 20 percent of the THC in the\n product, whereas smoking delivers between 50 and 60 percent of the\n THC in the flower.\n- A\n [study](http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=2338239)\n of the THC content of edibles found only 17 percent of examined\n products were accurately labeled. The remaining 83 percent either\n over- or under-labeled the THC content.\n- Until recently, there were few regulations regarding packaging,\n labeling or potency of manufactured edibles. Serving size might seem\n to be one cookie, but the cookie could contain anywhere from 2.5 mg\n to 20 mg or more of THC. States are beginning to address\n this discrepancy. In\n [Colorado](https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/sites/default/files/14-10_IndustryBulletin-Attachments.pdf),\n for example, an individually packaged serving can now contain no\n more than 10 mg of THC.\n\nIt's even more difficult to determine the potency and dosing of homemade\nedibles. People who require a specific dose of THC are recommended to\nstick with manufactured products that are clearly labeled and have been\ntested for potency, as well as food safety, and to be sure to follow the\ndirections on the label.\n\n[Photo Credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/dankdepot/5500915851/in/photolist-9o9EZj-9o6CCK-kNxB1e-nA6rP2-nQxGXj-8cA1xU-7aUPJF-7b1em2-bjyU1L-atJFX4-bwQBYj-awPuQe-rehJzP-7aWEBS-bEDnr9-9juU68-C4jmjz-Czr2ey-CurQn6-CzqYrj-C4dWPi-Bd2UMc-BZQ2dL-9da14T)\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.3986013986013985,"src":"/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/ee604/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.png","srcSet":"/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/69585/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.png 200w,\n/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/497c6/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.png 400w,\n/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/ee604/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.png 800w,\n/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/f3583/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.png 1200w,\n/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/9735e/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.png 1434w","srcWebp":"/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/58556/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/61e93/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.webp 200w,\n/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/1f5c5/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.webp 400w,\n/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/58556/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.webp 800w,\n/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/99238/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.webp 1200w,\n/static/0f52358c88b6d487757f5fdfa1cb01cf/99f96/e2cdfd1f74bd6c63bd6f9688799a2d35.webp 1434w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2010-markdown","title":"Why Marijuana Infused Soda Might Be Your Next Drink","slug":"why-marijuana-infused-soda-might-be-your-next-drink","content":"I have memories of running around on a hot summer day at our community pool and grabbing an ice cold Fresca, then running onto the slip-and-slide (aka ‘The Wet Banana’). I remember that type of childhood experience and that soda flavor so very well. The flavor somehow got embedded in my feel-good subconscious, similar to how the smell of autumn leaves might signal football games or burning wood makes me think of get-together bonfires on a beach in Martha’s Vineyard. So, perhaps if the notion of summer time (during our cold wet winter) combined with a bit of nostalgia sounds like a recipe for a good time, then [Sprig](http://www.drinksprig.com/) may have a place in your heart and next social gathering.\r\n\r\nSprig is a new THC infused beverage, which also happens to taste like a Fresca. In the words of founder Michael Lewis ‘A Sprig should make you want to smile more, that’s the whole point.’ Launched this past August, it has quickly become the rising star in the edibles drink market winning [Edibles List magazine Best Soda of 2015](http://ediblesmagazine.com/edibles/the-2015-best-of-edibles-list-awards-winners/). The magazine has a national scope, so Sprig was competing against some solid contenders, including [Dixie Elixirs](http://dixieelixirs.com/) flagship products.\r\n\r\nWhat becomes clear when you speak to the guys who started Sprig, is that they have authentic and inspiring aspirations for their brand. In their mind, a Sprig should be consumed in a social gathering creating a good-times-atmosphere and ideally, some shared memories. Their goal is not to get people smashed and their initial product launched at an intentionally low dose, a 15mg per serving can. They’d like to enhance a good vibe mentality and promote smart-use with what is essentially a recreational product. Think of the movie [Endless Summer](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0060371/), and imagine those guys after catching the most perfect wave, sitting down and drinking a Sprig together. \r\n\r\nMichael Lewis, Co Founder of Sprig, sat down to chat with me last week and here is what he had to say about Sprig:\r\n\r\n**How did you come up with the idea to create Sprig?**\r\n\r\nThe general concept of Sprig started just a little over a year ago and we officially launched in August of 2015. I met my co founder Ethan Feffer and Michael Lewis while working at [WeedMaps](https://weedmaps.com/) in Irvine, CA. Ethan was General Counsel there at the time, while I was managing Business Development and we became friendly. For both of us it was our first exposure to the cannabis industry and where we really gained an understanding of the California cannabis marketplace. Prior to Weedmaps, Ethan had been a corporate transactional attorney and I worked within finance for private investment funds. While still at Weedmaps, it became evident to us that there were very few well-done brands within the industry. It was at this time that we began to think about how we could possibly create a new product together and the idea of Sprig was hatched.\r\n\r\n**When you started creating Sprig, how did you think about it in relation to the edible marketplace?**\r\n\r\nEdibles, particularly those that you eat like a chocolate, are most often overpowering and the dosage can be unreliable. When creating our product we wanted to avoid creating anything that might have the [‘Maureen Dowd’ effect]( http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/04/opinion/dowd-dont-harsh-our-mellow-dude.html?_r=1). We wanted to create an elevated brand as well as a reliable product from the chemistry side, which would be incredibly consistent and reliable. Our intention was to create a product that contained the level of quality of a product you might purchase at a grocery store. Beverages are interesting in that it is much easier to know what you are getting in terms of reliability. The uniformity of the mixing ensures that the dosage is more consistent. We like that people can feel confident in what they are ingesting.\r\n\r\n**So, it sounds as if you knew early on you wanted to create a beverage within the edibles space?**\r\n\r\nYes, we wanted to create a beverage, as it is already something that people feel comfortable with socially. I feel more social drinking with people than I do when I am splitting a brownie. We want the experience people have with a Sprig to feel light hearted. Ultimately, the idea is that people would want to sit down and be comfortable in a group setting with a Sprig.\r\n\r\n**How did you come up with the name Sprig?**\r\nSprig the name is a subtle nod to an herb, whether that be rosemary, thyme or a plant like cannabis. The brand aspiration was to create something that is approachable that did not say ‘stoner’ or contain any puns relating to marijuana. We want both a new consumer as well as an experienced one to feel comfortable approaching our product. \r\n\r\n**It is interesting that Sprig launched with a 15mg dosage. This is considered a much lower dosed product than the industry norm. What was the thought behind releasing a 15 mg product?**\r\n\r\nInitially, we wanted to launch Sprig with a much lower dosage so that newer consumers within the market could start out smaller and feel OK with a can in their hands. Our first product contained only 15mg of THC and can be casually sipped over a period of time. Overall, our 15mg dose should never get anyone too high or overpower his or her day. \r\n\r\nWe worked with a group of chemists and PHDs out of USC to formulate the beverage and everyone was on the same page, the idea being we would start with a low dosage and work our way up to a higher dosage later. This is exactly what we have done with success. After being on the market for a little while, we saw there was a market demand for a higher dosage, so we have now released our 45mg dosage drinks. In California, our market let us know that they wanted a higher dosage and so we worked to deliver this. In relation to other products, our higher dosage product is still on the lower side of what you often see in a dispensary. We like that our high dose product is considered relatively low dose compared to other products.\r\n\r\n**How does consuming a can of Sprig make people feel?**\r\n\r\nIf I drink a 45mg can of Sprig, I will feel the effects of it for about 3 hours. If I drink a 15mg Sprig, I may feel a little relaxed or giggly. A slight upper effect is felt with the lower dosage, but you should not get a feeling of being overpowered. Everyone is different as we know, but in general, the market feedback we have received has mimicked my experience with the drink. Our goal was to create a social drink where people could continue to be social after drinking it and not feel the need to go away from the group.\r\n\r\nWhen a person drinks a Sprig, they will feel the effects more quickly than if you eat an edible, such as a brownie. Due to the fact it is a liquid, you will feel the effects in about 30 minutes and will not last for more than 3 hours. An edible you eat may take up to an hour or more to feel and can effect you for as long as 6 or 8 hours.\r\n\r\n**What is the process you go through to create a can of Sprig soda?**\r\n\r\nWe use a raw CO2 based extract, which is a very clean extract with no nasty solvents. Once we have created the CO2 extract, it is distilled in a similar way to liquor. The distillation process takes out some of the remaining impurities, and so you end up with very pure THC oil. There is no meaningful CBD presence within the extract and it almost looks like a honey-type substance. It is very viscous, amber colored oil. Once we get the refined CO2 oil, it is put into a soda and from there we combine it with organic cane sugar. It is your basic beverage but it has THC. \r\n\r\nThe flavoring is similar to a Fresca, and people seem to love this. When we were trying to create the soda from scratch, we steered the chemists towards the things we wanted to be somewhat like, which was a cross between a Fresca, an Orangina and a Japanese sodas, which often are less sweet than typical American sodas. After some back and forth, Sprig is what we came up with.\r\n\r\n**What would you like people to know about Sprig?**\r\n\r\nOur goal has been to release a very simple product. It is a THC infused soda that is meant to be socially positive. We don’t aim to get folks crazy high and we want people to have a good time and feel good while drinking the soda and afterwards. We wanted to develop a safe way for people to take cannabis. It is meant to be psychoactive and fun.\r\n\r\nWe believe our product has a wide appeal to people of different ages and backgrounds. It could be a poolside or beachside drink and if I think of a setting where it is consumed I think of happy, casual social get-togethers. This is not a product that is meant for hard partying, like say, Red Bull vodka. We think of a group of people enjoying each other’s company and smiling more. We want our brand and our product to look and feel uplifting and positive. \r\n\r\n**Where can people find Sprig today?**\r\n\r\nWe are currently in 110 dispensaries from San Diego up to Sonoma/Santa Rosa area. Initially, it was not easy to get into dispensaries. I would knock on doors and hustle it into various shops, it was good experience, but it was hard. Now, we add about 2 to 3 accounts a week and now people are calling us to find our product and some distributors are helping us with this. We would like to be in 200-350 dispensaries by the end of 2016. \r\n\r\nCurrently, we are focused on California, which is the nation’s biggest cannabis market. That said, Sprig's ambitions are national as well as international. We will want to ensure that we have quality control wherever we distribute so someone drinking a Sprig in Illinois or Washington will have the same experience as someone in Los Angeles. That's our end goal with wherever we take our product.\r\n\r\nIf you are new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. House of Jane offers a variety of high-end gourmet coffees, teas, hot chocolates & edibles to a wide variety of cannabis consumers. To date, Jane's Brew is offered in 127 dispensaries across the state of California and has been a trending brand since winning their first award at the Hempcon conference in 2014. Jill is upbeat and passionate about the Jane’s Brew product line and is a strong believer in and advocate for the medicinal benefits of cannabis.\n\n**What was the inspiration for starting Jane’s Brew?**\n>My grown son Trey and I were in Amsterdam a few years ago and I was very inspired by the coffee houses there and the array of cannabis products that were offered. However, I don’t like to smoke pot. So what I really wanted was to find a method of ingestion that made sense to me. I don’t have a sweet tooth as I don’t eat sugar, so I thought, ‘What do I drink every day?’. That’s when it hit me, I drink coffee and tea and that this could be a great vehicle for a cannabis-infused product. When we came back to the States I started to do R&D for our product line and to get back into the industry and well, here we are today! We started out in 2014 and did a very soft launch that year with a small group of clubs in the Orange County area. Afterwards, we did our actual launch in January 2015.\n\n**Soon after you launched, Jane’s Brew won an award at Hempcon. You have been going through the stratosphere ever since that happened, right?**\n>Yes, thank goodness! One of the products we entered into Hempcon was our [creamer](http://www.houseofjane.com/#!janes-brew-cannabis-non-dairy-creamers/c1ld); everyone loves our French vanilla creamer. I think it was the regular hot chocolate that won. We invested so much time and energy in creating our products right before we even launched and we continue to make adjustments along the way. This is an interesting industry and an interesting time. There are a lot of little things that happen in our industry every day. I believe the saying is ‘every 3 weeks in this industry is 6 months [in any other]’. \n\n**Do you feel that your product is a good introduction for people who are trying cannabis for the first time?**\n>Yes, absolutely. We are conversing with patients all of the time. They want to know and understand the benefits of cannabis, especially those who are trying it for the first time. Many people are intrigued by the consumption of cannabis through our coffees and teas because it seems like a very natural way to take medication. We do get a lot of feedback from people who have tried our products who say, “Oh my goodness, I am so glad you are here.” It makes me feel really good to hear the positive feedback.\n\n**Since you have started, whom have you found to be your target demographic?**\n>Our core demographic is people like you and me, people in the forty plus market. We are professionals, we are busy with some stress in our life, and we have families: that is our target market. Also, a lot of our target market hasn’t even tried cannabis yet, or doesn’t even know what [CBD (cannabidiol)](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/55e12afb6539390006040000/cbd-oil-breaking-the-stereotypes-of-cannabis) is. Our goal is to educate people and let them know what the positive effects of CBD may be for them. Many of our products are CBD-focused without any psycho-activity at all. Many people do not realize that you can take cannabis for medicinal reasons and not get high or stoned. When we launched, I knew that we would hit a slightly older demographic because of interest in wellness as well as experience with illness. The one thing that did surprise us is that people in their 20s also seem to really appreciate and seek out our products.\n\n**Do you associate your products as being helpful for any specific illnesses?**\n>We have stayed away from all claims. I believe that as more people are educated about cannabis they will absolutely understand how our products can be helpful to them and their condition specifically. In terms of education, we want to teach people about the benefits of consuming edibles verses inhalation, but we don’t talk about specific illnesses.\n\n**A lot of your products have a high CBD component, with that I’m assuming some of your products may have higher levels of THC as well. How do you go about dosing a tea or coffee beverage practically?**\n>Our products come in multiple doses. For example, our [chamomile tea](http://www.houseofjane.com/#!janes-brew-cannabis-infused-teas/c1gh9) comes in 20mg tea bags. The first time, someone may want to share a glass of that 20mg, or put half of it away for the next day. You can also brew the tea in a communal format. Say, I am having a 420 evening with other medical patients, I may brew a 200mg container of tea, but I’ll make 12-20 servings out of that when I add ice and dilute it some. \n\n>Our new bottled beverages are coming out dosed at 80mgs. In the future we want to include a small dosing cup in the package so people can actually measure out a unit to try it before they continue to drink the rest of the bottle. Secondly, we have a CBD version of the bottled product that will come out soon, as well as a 20mg bottle. We introduce by market demand, 80mgs is not a very high dose for most of the market we are serving at the present time.\n\n**There is a lot of negative media these days surrounding the edibles market and the potential problems with dosing. Do you find that putting yourself in the category of edibles is beneficial to Jane’s brew?**\n>The truth is that we are classified under edibles because our cannabis products are consumed orally. I have often thought about coining my own name for our beverages as a new category in the market. I have a few ideas, but I haven’t done anything with it yet. So at this point in time, our goal is to best educate people regarding the benefits of our edibles and how to dose appropriately. \n\n>The most important thing I think we do is to educate the bud masters who are responsible for selling our products in the dispensaries. We do not want our product abused or for people to have a bad experience. In everything we publish, we talk about beginning with doses as small as 5-10mgs per serving, waiting at least an hour, then evaluating if dosing needs to be adjusted. Our [Jane’s Brew Oath](http://www.houseofjane.com/#!join-janes-army/c209p) is really our philosophy that encompasses all of these ideas. \n\n**Could you explain the Jane’s Brew Oath philosophy for us?**\n>I think there is an element about who Jane is; Jane is a very free, but responsible, spirit. We ask that people, if they choose, to take an oath for responsible consumption of cannabis. We believe people should have a right to do what they choose, as long as it is not harming others. They should have an opportunity to be inspired, creative, energized, and strive for wellness. They should also be very responsible when communicating this message with others. Essentially, I would say that is a lot of what the message is about. It is all to enjoy the benefits of cannabis. \n\n\n**Do you do laboratory testing on the products you bring to market? How do you manage the consistency of your products?**\n>We triple lab test our products using three different labs because it is very important to us to make sure that all lab results are consistent with one another. We test at our oil stage to make sure the product is calibrated for what we understand the percentage of components to be and for microbes and other additives. Our second level of testing is at powder stage, we convert all of our oils to a powder form for the manufacturing of our product, where we test for similar components as the first stage. Lastly, we test at the finished product level. We post lab results every month--not all of them, however, because we have far too many--on our website so people can look at the results and feel secure that our products are free of pesticides or microbial issues. \n\n**Do you feel that rigorous lab testing sets you apart from some of the other product companies out there?**\n>Yes and no. I think the industry is changing quite a bit. I think that anyone who wants to be taken seriously in the market will lab test. The dispensaries that we work with require lab testing and will lab test independently themselves. It’s important for the health and safety of our consumers.\n\n**What are your favorite products from Jane’s Brew?**\n>I love our bottled products, especially the unsweetened ones because I don’t drink sweetened tea. For the evening, my favorite beverage is our chamomile tea. Every night I drink a cup of chamomile tea and watch some TV, then I head to bed and I am ready for a good night’s sleep. The tea is very natural and herbal; there is never a hangover when you wake up after drinking cannabis tea like there is with some sleeping pills. \n\n**Where can people buy Jane’s Brew products?**\n>We have our products in127 different dispensaries, as far north as Shasta and all the way down to San Diego, and everywhere in between. We also work with a delivery service that distributes to individual patients in California regardless of their location. So if you go through our website it will take you to an online ordering page. \n\n**Wrapping up, is there anything else you would like to say?**\n>I really think people need to educate themselves. They can go on our site or a number of quality sources online to learn more about cannabis. It is not only about Jane’s Brew products, patients should know what products are and understand them before medicating.\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/2wBDABALDA4MChAODQ4SERATGCgaGBYWGDEjJR0oOjM9PDkzODdASFxOQERXRTc4UG1RV19iZ2hnPk1xeXBkeFxlZ2P/2wBDARESEhgVGC8aGi9jQjhCY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2P/wgARCAAPABQDASIAAhEBAxEB/8QAGQAAAgMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQBAgMF/8QAFgEBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAgAD/9oADAMBAAIQAxAAAAHo2WjOfMwr/8QAGRABAAMBAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAgEDEQAT/9oACAEBAAEFAksJcSeu3yq1UmMj/8QAFREBAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEBH/2gAIAQMBAT8Bp//EABYRAAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABARIf/aAAgBAgEBPwFQf//EABkQAAIDAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACARARQf/aAAgBAQAGPwI2mzgs1//EABgQAQEBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEAESEx/9oACAEBAAE/IdtIimETSWr11eFb3S5rf//aAAwDAQACAAMAAAAQ7O//xAAWEQEBAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABERD/2gAIAQMBAT8QFZn/xAAVEQEBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQQf/aAAgBAgEBPxCh/8QAGxABAQEAAgMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAREAMUEhUdH/2gAIAQEAAT8QZdE7WTD19Le8CQR7MRMCm8MbMCIWKEOX5pYi1fG//9k=","aspectRatio":1.3333333333333333,"src":"/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/14b42/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.jpg","srcSet":"/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/f836f/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.jpg 200w,\n/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/2244e/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.jpg 400w,\n/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/14b42/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.jpg 800w,\n/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/47498/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.jpg 1200w,\n/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/7d1a7/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.jpg 1218w","srcWebp":"/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/58556/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/61e93/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.webp 200w,\n/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/1f5c5/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.webp 400w,\n/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/58556/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.webp 800w,\n/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/99238/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.webp 1200w,\n/static/0158bc7747c1b1913e8aec7798aafcee/cedc7/5c80a3c9f01bf0fb14049b5ec91aae08.webp 1218w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_1954-markdown","title":"Auntie Dolores: The Forefront of the Gourmet Edibles Movement","slug":"auntie-dolores-the-forefront-of-the-gourmet-edibles-movement","content":"[Auntie Dolores](http://auntiedolores.com/), a gourmet cannabis edibles company, was founded by Julianna Carella in 2008. The idea was hatched in the ever popular Dolores Park in San Francisco during a time when the cannabis industry was still in its infancy. Except for the ubiquitous home made ‘pot brownie’ and the odd gummy bear, Julianna was hard pressed to find other edible choices in the marketplace. Inspired by the gourmet foods movement in her hometown, Julianna surged forward to provide gourmet edibles to a sophisticated crowd of cannabis patients and enthusiasts. Auntie Dolores took off quickly and is now represented by hundreds of dispensaries across California with big plans for future expansion. HelloMD spoke with Julianna to get to know more about her company and the philosophy behind it. \r\n\r\n\r\n**When you launched Auntie Dolores, what were your first products offered?**\r\n>The first unique product that became very popular was the savory pretzel. They are vegan and low glycemic. After the pretzels became popular, we developed our chili lime peanuts and the caramel corn. We’ve always had brownies and cookies, which are a staple in most dispensaries. Yet our brownies are vegan, low glycemic, and made with coconut oil and coconut sugar. We wanted to make something that not only tasted great, but was healthier than other products out in the market. We wanted to appeal to a wider clientele with both great flavors and new savory products. At the time we started Auntie Dolores, everything was made with white sugar and white flour and with extremely unhealthy ingredients.\r\n\r\n\r\n**I read on your website that the Latin root of Dolores is ‘Dolore’ which means pain. Naming your company Auntie Dolores is meant to represent anti-pain. When you created your company were you thinking about targeting the medicinal community?**\r\n>Absolutely, there are many, many people who are using cannabis as medicine and we wanted to reach those people. However, we also want to appeal to a wide array of people, whether they are using it for pain management, anxiety, epilepsy, or just to feel good.\r\n\r\n**Is it fair to say that you are aiming to create gourmet foods that are also healthy?**\r\n>Yes. The first thing we always start with is the flavor of our foods. Cannabis can usually be tasted so we are interested in finding ingredients that can mask the flavor of cannabis really well. We have found that the savory products do a great job of that. We also include super-foods in our products because it is a way of making edibles an overall healthier experience. \r\n\r\n>Coconut oil, which is a common ingredient for us, and cannabis have a lot of the same health benefits and they work well together. A lot of the super-foods, like cacao for instance, are really good for you and have a strong flavor that helps to mask the cannabis flavor, so that is an example of how we might select an ingredient. Almost all of our products have coconut oil in them. We love coconut oil! \r\n\r\n**It sounds as if you were ahead of the coconut oil movement which is so popular now.**\r\n>Coconut oil used to get a bad wrap as a saturated fat, but it has a lot of health benefits, as we all know now. It also does a great job of extracting cannabinoids because of the high fat content. We use CO2 extracted cannabis oil infused into coconut oil to bring cannabis into our products.\r\n\r\n\r\n**What is good about CO2 extracted cannabis oil?**\r\n>It is so concentrated so you can really achieve a better flavor with that product, because you are using such a small amount. You end up with high potency, without the flavor of cannabis, which is ideal. With CO2 cannabis oil, you’re using a lot less oil because it is so concentrated which creates more consistent potency and an overall better flavor. \r\n\r\n\r\n**Elderly patients are beginning to discover cannabis as a form of medicine for a variety of ailments. How do you educate a less experienced patient population on how to use your products effectively and safely?
**\r\n>Over the years we have gained insight into the elderly community and how they use our products. For instance, I recently heard from an elderly woman who told me that she eats one caramel corn a night right before bed to help her sleep. A lot of elderly patients choose to use our products for arthritis, and they tend to only need one or two savory crackers at a time because their tolerance is fairly low. \r\n\r\n>Our products are designed so you can eat a little bit or a lot, but it also depends on the person’s tolerance level. The dosage is on the package, each pretzel has 3 mg so you may only need 3 or 4 of those pretzels to give you a 10 mg dosage, which is often enough. You can experience the analgesic effects without feeling high, if you know how to regulate your dosage. I think people who have had difficulty with edibles, who have had a bad experience with them, find our products a lot easier to work with because they can eat 2 pretzels and have the effect they are looking for. It’s important to start slowly as everyone is different but we do state dosages on our packaging very clearly.\r\n\r\n**You have some new CBD (cannabidiol) products coming out, can you tell me a little about that?**\r\n>We have secured a great source for CBD and it took us a long time. Now that we have a consistent source, we are in the process of developing new products. We hope to sell our CBD edibles worldwide. \r\n\r\n**Is the CBD hemp derived?**\r\n>Yes, the CBD we use for our international products is derived from Hemp.  We chose to use hemp-derived CBD so that we can sell this product outside of California, being that it is below the legal THC threshold. That way, if someone is interested in the CBD products, you will perhaps have better access to those products. Also, you can independently mix them with THC if you want. Our 50mg CBD brownie and our 10mg THC brownie combined will create a 5:1 ratio (CBD:THC) or you can take a 100mg THC brownie and our 50mg CBD brownie for a 1:2 ratio (CBD:THC). The brownies are small and low in calories and many patients combine to get the effect they are looking for.  There are many different combinations you can create or you can just have the CBD brownie on its own. \r\n\r\n**Are the hemp derived CBD products as effective as cannabis derived CBD products on the market today?**\r\n>Yes, CBD is CBD. There are a lot of misconceptions about CBD. We have sourced a superior form of CBD that is free of heavy metals and other contaminants. Usually the concentrations of THC in marijuana are going to be hard to take out, but if you start with CBD in hemp, where there is no THC present, it is easier to get a pure CBD product. It is advantageous to have both CBD and THC in a product, but that is not something we can ship it across the country. \r\n\r\n**What is most exciting development within Auntie Dolores right now?**\r\n>We are extremely excited about launching our line of CBD products. We’ve only had the CBD brownie out for a few weeks and the response has been overwhelming. We are also looking forward to when the price of CBD comes down to the price of THC. CBD has a lot of great applications but it can be 4 times as expensive as THC, so we are having to charge so much more for our CBD products. We look forward to the day when we can give access to everyone who wants CBD products at a fair and balanced price point.","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.2903225806451613,"src":"/static/e4c93fc5ad37b4bf5dbf809664de85da/33aa5/d3512a02960b3efad954ba0d9204eebd.jpg","srcSet":"/static/e4c93fc5ad37b4bf5dbf809664de85da/f836f/d3512a02960b3efad954ba0d9204eebd.jpg 200w,\n/static/e4c93fc5ad37b4bf5dbf809664de85da/2244e/d3512a02960b3efad954ba0d9204eebd.jpg 400w,\n/static/e4c93fc5ad37b4bf5dbf809664de85da/33aa5/d3512a02960b3efad954ba0d9204eebd.jpg 768w","srcWebp":"/static/e4c93fc5ad37b4bf5dbf809664de85da/7f8e9/d3512a02960b3efad954ba0d9204eebd.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/e4c93fc5ad37b4bf5dbf809664de85da/61e93/d3512a02960b3efad954ba0d9204eebd.webp 200w,\n/static/e4c93fc5ad37b4bf5dbf809664de85da/1f5c5/d3512a02960b3efad954ba0d9204eebd.webp 400w,\n/static/e4c93fc5ad37b4bf5dbf809664de85da/7f8e9/d3512a02960b3efad954ba0d9204eebd.webp 768w","sizes":"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px"}}}}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":12,"numPages":3,"currentPage":2,"id":5224,"name":"Edibles","slug":"edibles","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
