This holds true when it comes to how marijuana affects men’s reproductive health, too. \n\nHowever, as time goes on and marijuana laws loosen across the world, we’re starting to get a much better understanding of how the plant works. When it comes to men’s health, it’s still hard to know much for sure as cannabis’s effects on the body are highly individual.\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) &\n[INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Marijuana Doesn’t Lower Sex Drive in Men \n\nMaybe it’s born out of stoner stereotypes, but it’s been a common assumption for decades that marijuana is detrimental to men’s sex drive. Initially, early studies seemed to support this view. And as recently as 2011, one study pointed out that [chronic cannabis consumption—more than once a week—could lead to reproductive issues for men](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1743-6109.2010.02198.x), including lowered libido and erectile dysfunction. \n\nBut more recent research seems to blow that idea out of the water. A 2015 study from Stanford University surveyed about 50,000 people over a 12-year period. The results showed in simple terms that [the more marijuana people consume, the more sex they have](http://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2017/10/regular-marijuana-use-linked-to-more-sex.html). This holds true for both men and women of all different races, religions and ethnicities. People who smoke marijuana daily have about 20% more sex than those who smoke no cannabis at all.\n\nThis doesn’t necessarily mean that men have more sex because they use marijuana—it may be that people who use cannabis are more open to sexual encounters. Even though we don’t know if marijuana and sex have a causal relationship, it’s a pretty striking correlation.\n\n### Marijuana May Still Cause Some Sexual Problems \n\nEven though men who consume marijuana have more sex than those who don’t, marijuana may still cause some sexual dysfunction. Some people have used [cannabis as a cure for erectile dysfunction](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1831906/), but it may not be the most effective treatment.\n\nThere’s strong evidence that marijuana can both [help](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4837321/) and [hurt](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1743-6109.2009.01453.x?deniedAccessCustomisedMessage=&userIsAuthenticated=false) men’s sexual performance. \n\nThese studies aren’t definitive. It’s likely that how marijuana affects performance has a lot more to do with people on an individual basis. We know that [sexual systems in the body are facilitated by the endocannabinoid system (ECS)](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0024320512003049). We also know that the ECS varies from person to person. \n\nEventually, science will uncover more concrete answers for how marijuana affects sexual performance in men, but right now it’s still murky, and best for individuals to decide for themselves if cannabis helps or hurts them in this department.\n\n### Does Cannabis Lower Sperm Count? \n\nMarijuana almost certainly lowers sperm count in men. However, how much, and how important the problem is, is hard to determine. \n\nUnlike marijuana’s effects on sex drive and sexual performance, there’s much more consensus on how marijuana effects sperm count. One study from Denmark in 2015 found that [marijuana use could drop sperm count by 29%](https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/182/6/473/82600). The study even controlled for other factors that may contribute to lower sperm count. For example, people who consume marijuana are more likely to smoke cigarettes, which can also affect sperm count.\n\nWhile these results are noteworthy, they’re not totally definitive. This study is small enough that it’s possible random chance had more to do with sperm levels than any factors the researchers tested for. But, urologists unrelated to the Denmark study have noticed that [even occasional cannabis use can damage sperm](http://nationalpost.com/health/smoking-a-couple-of-joints-a-week-research-warns-it-may-make-sperm-more-mellow-and-swim-in-circles). \n\nIt’s important to note that [sperm counts have been falling in the western world for four straight decades](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/sperm-count-dropping-in-western-world/), and no one’s really sure why. A combination of factors including obesity, diet, lack of exercise and dozens of other things that researchers have looked at to explain the falling sperm counts exist for marijuana consumers, too. However, there’s a growing body of evidence that suggests cannabis lowers sperm count regardless of other environmental factors.\n\nFor men who use marijuana medically, it may be a good idea to consult with a urologist. These effects aren’t well understood, and it’s entirely possible further research will reverse these conclusions. But right now, the best evidence suggests cannabis has adverse effects on men’s sperm. \n\n### So, What Does This All Mean for Marijuana & Men’s Reproductive Health? \n\nIt’s unlikely male cannabis consumers will see a problem in having more sex. But for men looking to start families, it’s possible long-term marijuana use could cause some fertility problems in the future. \n\nFor medical consumers, how marijuana interacts with the body is a whole different ball game. Medical conditions also have adverse effects on sperm, so in that case, it’s possible marijuana is helping sperm count. \n\nWe all know marijuana can be a part of a healthy lifestyle. But for whole body health, it’s important to realize the limitations of cannabis. For men who are looking to start a family, or are experiencing sexual issues, marijuana could be equal parts problem and solution. Looking into how marijuana affects your body, and consulting with doctors and addressing those health problems is the best bet for cannabis-consuming men and their sexual health. \n\nPhoto credit: [Matheus Ferrero]( https://unsplash.com/@matheusferrero)\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101]https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Each gathering is a based on a theme and usually hosts a guest (or guests) from the cannabis industry. \r\n\r\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\r\n\r\nEllementa’s most recent event was held at WestSide Art House in San Francisco and showcased the ever-popular topic of sex and cannabis. Guests for the event included Cyo Ray Nystrom, the CEO and cofounder of [Quim Rock](https://www.quimrock.com/), a company that makes a cannabis vaginal topical; and Maria Lara, a marriage and family therapist who also trains budtenders. Attendees included both women in the cannabis industry and those who were simply interested in learning more about the plant. \r\n\r\nHere are highlights from the sex and cannabis event: \r\n\r\n#### **CBD’s ant-inflammatory properties have applications in sex**\r\n\r\nAccording to Cyo, we think of cannabis—and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in particular—as a sexual stimulant: It heightens awareness, increases sensations and can make it easier to climax (though that’s not the only reason for having sex, she adds). But THC’s counterpart, cannabidiol (CBD) can also be used to quell inflammation post-sex, especially after a long love-making session. \r\n\r\n#### **Sex doesn’t have to be a partnered activity**\r\n\r\n “One of the most important things cannabis can help with is getting us used to our own bodies,” says Maria. “Growing up, we often get the message that sex is bad, so you might have stuff attached to it.”\r\n\r\nCannabis can be used to relax your mind and get you in the mood for self-experimentation. It can also help us work through any discomfort that we associate with sex or a particular sexual activity. \r\n\r\nRELATED: [TOP 5 CANNABIS STRAINS TO INCREASE YOUR SEX DRIVE](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a80d19af24d1300077ccb3f/top-5-cannabis-strains-to-increase-your-sex-drive)\r\n\r\n“[Cannabis] fosters the relationship between yourself and your sexuality,” says Maria. She adds that we oftentimes have to discover what works for us on our own time before we can be with a partner, and cannabis is a great tool to help you in this self-discovery. \r\n\r\n#### **Linalool might get you in the mood**\r\n\r\nLinalool, a terpene found in cannabis and many other plants, might help get you going. We know that THC gets you high, but we now think that terpenes determine the nature of that high. According to Maria, linalool is thought to induce relaxation and be a mood enhancer—all great properties to help get you in the right mindset.\r\n\r\n#### **Ask yourself: What turns you on?**\r\n\r\n“The real question is: What makes you horny?” says Cyo. “I know … [cannabis] that’s more indica-heavy will help a lot of people get into their bodies, but that would just put me right to sleep.”\r\n\r\nCyo adds that she needs something with more sativa-like effects because she sees her brain as an erogenous zone. She advises that we ask ourselves what we’re looking for in our sexual experiences. Once we’ve figured that out, we’re in a better position to choose cannabis products that can help us meet our goals. \r\n\r\nMeanwhile, in her work as a budtender, Maria notes that folks interested in using cannabis as an aphrodisiac usually have to try a few products before they find a good match. \r\n\r\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Indeed, sex and cannabis have an intimate relationship—one that dates back centuries. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Cannabis & Tantric Sex in India\n\nCannabis is strongly linked to Hindu culture in many ways—it’s been a traditional folk medicine in India since the fourth century BCE, and it’s still widely known as an aphrodisiac in that country. The plant was used in tantric sex and yoga practices associated with the goddess Kali as early as 700 AD. According to Michael Aldrich, who published a paper on tantric cannabis use in India, [the combination of yoga, sex and cannabis was a way for participants to achieve a spiritual awakening](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/233211369_Tantric_Cannabis_Use_in_India). \n\nParticipants in the ritual would consume cannabis in the form of _bhang_, a preparation specific to India that consists of mashed-up cannabis leaves and flower rolled into a ball. In this ritual, other ingredients like almonds, pepper, cardamom and poppy could be added to the _bhang_ to make a type of milkshake or “victory drink” called _vijaya_. \n\nFolks consumed _vijaya_ about an hour and a half before ritual lovemaking so that the cannabis would have time to take full effect. According to the book [_Hemp and Spirituality_](https://books.google.com/books?id=w0qvkVGO0sgC&pg=PA95&lpg=PA95&dq=kali+goddess+cannabis+sex&source=bl&ots=DpWf0KJNSs&sig=3geJ7wRoX3Uk-YFovmrvz39Fqe0&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiAj-nhsZLZAhUq4YMKHZd3BqAQ6AEIZTAO#v=onepage&q=kali%20goddess%20cannabis%20sex&f=false), tantric sex was about “oneness”—not necessarily about achieving orgasm.\n\nThus cannabis, which heightened the senses and induced euphoria was an essential part of the ceremony. The plant also enabled participants to be aroused for a much longer period of time—some manuscripts detailing these practices describe sexual rituals that lasted for as long as eight hours. \n\n### Cannabis Considered the Strongest Aphrodisiac in Eastern Europe\n\nWe don’t often associate Eastern European culture with cannabis, but people in this area of the world are also familiar with its healing and sensation-magnifying properties. For example, in Serbia, hemp is an important crop and has been used in folk medicine for centuries. Serbian men consider hemp seed to be an aphrodisiac—so much so that they believe wearing hemp can increase their sexual prowess. \n\nRELATED: [CANNABIS USERS HAVE MORE SEX](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a1db9e4eea891000897e272/cannabis-users-have-more-sex)\n\nMeanwhile, in a 1975 paper, Polish anthropologist Sula Benet noted a mixture of lamb’s fat and _nasha_, which is a central Asian word for [hemp, was consumed by Soviet-Era Russian brides on their wedding nights to reduce pain from their first sexual encounters](http://www.xn--4dbcyzi5a.com/wp-content/PDF/EARLY-DIFFUSION-AND-FOLK-USES-OF-HEMP-SULA-BENET.pdf). \n\nSula also notes that Eastern Europeans cooked a “happy porridge,” which consisted of almond butter mixed with hashish, dried rose leaves, daisy root, carnation petals, crocus bulb, nutmeg, cardamom, honey and sugar. Apparently, this mixture was considered the luxury cannabis product of its time and sought out by men who believed it to be “the strongest aphrodisiac.” \n\n### Cannabis & the Viking’s Love Goddess Freya\n\nIn 1903, a farmer stumbled upon an ancient Viking Ship in Norway that contained many artifacts from the 800s AD. Among the artifacts were the skeletons of two women and a curious leather bag that contained cannabis seeds. \n\nThese seeds are thought to be connected to one of those women, known as the Oseberg Queen. Many archeologists, among them the prominent Anne Stine Ingstad, believe the woman was not just a secular queen but also a priestess of Freya, the love goddess of Norse mythology.\n\nAnne believed that the cannabis seeds were used in rituals during this pre-Christian period in Scandinavia. The book [_Cannabis: Evolution & Ethnobotany_](https://www.amazon.com/Cannabis-Evolution-Ethnobotany-Robert-Clarke/dp/0520292480) states that Freya was associated with hemp sowing and harvest festivals across northern Europe, and often times “erotic rituals” were held in her honor. It’s thought that the feminine cannabis flower had erotic and love-generating powers, and that those who consumed these flowers would be imbued with the joy and seductive tendencies of the love goddess. \n\n### Cannabis & Erectile Dysfunction in Uganda \n\nRarely is cannabis tied to male fertility and sexuality—in fact, some modern-day studies even suggest that cannabis use can lower testosterone in men, leading to a decreased sex drive. However, this isn’t the case in Uganda, where [cannabis has been a common remedy for erectile dysfunction for centuries](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1831906/), according to an article published in _African Health Sciences_. \n\nAlthough cannabis is technically illegal in Uganda, the authors of the study note that the plant is cultivated in the country for maintaining male sexual health, and that it’s usually smoked.\n\nCannabis’s aphrodisiacal properties have been known to humans for centuries, and its popularity in this context doesn’t seem to be waning: Companies like [Foria](https://www.hellomd.com/brands/5760c7d0e4599e00070000d7/foria) and HerbaBuena have developed products for the bedroom that are sought after in the modern cannabis industry. Cannabis, after all, has been considered an aphrodisiac for centuries in cultures all over the world. And we all know a healthy sex life can do wonders for our physical and mental health.\n\nThe two most important things to consider before mixing marijuana and sex are tolerance and preference. Choosing the wrong product or consuming too much of a product you love before getting intimate could turn a romantic night into a decidedly un-sexy event. It may take a period of trial and error to figure out exactly what strains increase your sex drive and sexual sensitivity, without making you anxious or tired. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nIf you’re typically a fan of indica strains, stick with an indica before sex. If you prefer the energy and cerebral high of a sativa, go with that instead, and start by consuming your typical dose. If you have yet to establish a typical dose, start slow and ease into the experience. \n\nHere are our recommendations for cannabis strains that can increase sex drive. The list includes different options for a wide variety of cannabis consumers, from newbies to connoisseurs.\n\nRELATED: [CANNABIS CONSUMERS HAVE MORE SEX](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-users-have-more-sex)\n\n### Top 5 Cannabis Strains to Rev Up Your Sex Drive\n\n**Green Crack**\n\nGreen Crack might have one of the most unfortunate marijuana strain names, but it’s a fan favorite for a reason. This is a sativa-dominant strain that offers a sweet aroma and smooth hit. Its cerebral, energetic and euphoric high make it a great choice to set the mood before having sex.\n\nGreen Crack is a good option for moderate-to-heavy cannabis consumers looking to liven up their sex life. Since this tends to be a high-energy strain, try it for an upbeat bedroom performance or a daytime rendezvous. \n\n**Northern Lights**\n\nThere’s nothing worse than the anxiety that can come prior to having sex with a new partner or trying something different in the bedroom. [Northern Lights](https://hellomd.com/strains) is a great strain for just these situations. \n\nIt’s a pure indica strain known for its ability to relieve symptoms of anxiety, stress and pain. A couple puffs of Northern Lights, and you’ll feel stress and anxiety melt away, replaced with a euphoric high and relaxed body. Go easy on it though, because it can cause sleepiness if you consume too much. \n\n**Blue Dream**\n\n[Blue Dream](https://hellomd.com/strains) has been one of America’s favorite cannabis strains for a very long time. A sativa-dominant hybrid, it’s as close to a perfectly balanced high as you can get. Blue Dream’s manageable and pleasant high makes it a ubiquitous strain for experienced cannabis consumers and beginners alike. \n\nBecause you can expect a long-lasting high from Blue Dream, it’s great for a second round energy boost or an extended period of foreplay. \n\n**Sour Diesel**\n\nIf you have a high tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) tolerance and want heightened sexual stimulation and pleasure, [Sour Diesel](https://hellomd.com/strains/) is a good choice for you. Sour Diesel is a sativa known for its high THC content (19–25%), which results in a very uplifting and happy high that can make you feel like you’re floating.\n\nBut if a lot of THC makes you uncomfortable, this cannabis strain probably isn’t for you. (Don’t worry, we’ve got something following that you may like.) Use Sour Diesel night or day for spirited sex. \n\n**Harlequin**\n\nIf you don’t want high levels of THC before you get intimate, Harlequin is tailor-made for you. This sativa-dominant strain has a high cannabidiol (CBD) to THC ratio of 5:2, perfect if THC tends to make you anxious or paranoid. Not everyone experiences psychoactive effects from this strain, but if they do, the high tends to be minimal. \n\nTry a little Harlequin before sex to help relax the body without compromising mental clarity. This is a great strain for those who want to be completely present mentally while having sex, but with added body relaxation. \n\nMixing cannabis and sex can create some really beautiful results. If you don’t find the perfect strain for sex your first try, don’t get discouraged. Take the time to learn your body’s preference, and you’ll reap all of the rewards for your patience. \n\nDo you have a marijuana strain you love to consume before having sex? We’re also getting more data from scientists conducting research around cannabis. One of the most interesting questions folks are attempting to answer is: How exactly does cannabis affect men and women differently?\r\n\r\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\r\n\r\nEvery person reacts differently to cannabis based on their unique biochemistry as well as genetic factors like height and weight. But we’re learning that gender can also play a big role in a person’s relationship with cannabis. Sex hormones, the amount of cannabinoid receptors and where these receptors are found in the body differ between men and women—and researchers are still discovering other differences. \r\n\r\nRELATED: [MORE WOMEN ARE NOW CONSUMING CANNABIS](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/592efb98d5b1733844d9bc99/more-women-are-now-consuming-cannabis)\r\n\r\n### Sex Hormones Cause Different Reactions to Marijuana\r\n\r\nResearch shows that sex hormones are a big part of why one gender experiences marijuana differently than the other. For women, estrogen plays a particularly significant role in the effects of cannabis. \r\n\r\nEstrogen regulates something called fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), which degrades a naturally occurring endocannabinoid named anandamide. Anandamide is the body’s natural version of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), known for its euphoric effects and ability to regulate mood and appetite. \r\n\r\nEstrogen levels fluctuate during a female’s menstrual cycle and are lowest during a woman’s period. When estrogen levels are low, FAAH is able to more freely degrade anandamide, which can often result in temporary states of anxiety and depression. This is also why [women report marijuana to be less effective just before and during their period](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/59dd94919ce4ed24c356c39e/is-cannabis-less-effective-during-your-period). \r\n\r\nFor men, the effects of marijuana on the endocannabinoid system (ECS) don’t fluctuate nearly as much. At any given time in a month, cannabinoids from cannabis generally synthesize and affect men in the same way. \r\n\r\n### 5 Ways Marijuana Affects Men & Women Differently\r\n\r\n**Tolerance**\r\n\r\nAccording to a study out of Washington State University performed on rats, [females build up a tolerance to cannabis faster than men](https://news.wsu.edu/2014/09/03/females-more-sensitive-to-cannabis-males-get-munchies/#.VA8G92RdWcI). But it should be noted that tolerance to cannabis, regardless of gender, increases rapidly. \r\n\r\nWhat does this mean for women? It may be worth it for women to do a [cannabis tolerance cleanse](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a4aaf10100a820006562f46/should-i-do-a-cannabis-tolerance-cleanse) more often than men do in order to get tolerance levels back down to where it doesn’t take increasingly more marijuana to feel the desired effects. \r\n\r\n**Sexual Health**\r\n\r\nIn men, [high levels of THC can cause temporary low levels of testosterone](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6090909). Lower testosterone levels can affect libido, sexual performance and male fertility. It’s important to note that THC-related decreases in testosterone are short-lived; testosterone levels can be restored to normal levels by taking a short cannabis break. \r\n\r\nA study by the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia looked at cannabis and its effects on women’s libido. Researchers found that [cannabis topicals can increase arousal and sexual stimulation as well as improve overall sexual health](https://open.library.ubc.ca/media/download/pdf/24/1.0103333/1). They concluded that women generally have more positive sexual outcomes from consuming cannabis than men tend to have.\r\n\r\n**Pain Relief**\r\n\r\nA 2016 study looked at the pain-relieving effects of cannabis on males and females. The researchers concluded that [active cannabis, when smoked, “significantly decreased” pain sensitivity in men](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27522535). Compared to female subjects, men experienced more pain relief from consuming marijuana. This could mean that women need higher doses of cannabis to feel the same pain relief that men receive with a lower dose of the same product. \r\n\r\nThere are other studies that conflict with these findings, including the Washington State University study. According to that research, women were more susceptible to pain relief from cannabis, but only when their estrogen levels were at their peak. These conflicting studies highlight the need for more research on the topic. \r\n\r\n**Increased Appetite**\r\n\r\nIn the same study from Washington State University, researchers found that [men are more susceptible than women are to getting the munchies after consuming cannabis](https://news.wsu.edu/2014/09/03/females-more-sensitive-to-cannabis-males-get-munchies/#.VA8G92RdWcI). According to researchers, this increased appetite after cannabis consumption was the only “THC reaction where males show more sensitivity than females.” This finding seems to corroborate other studies that show [THC increases appetite in males more than it does in females](https://www.centerformedicalcannabis.com/single-post/2017/03/31/Are-Men-and-Women-Effected-Differently-by-Cannabis).\r\n\r\n**Withdrawal**\r\n\r\nA 2010 study published in the _American Journal of Drug Alcohol Abuse_ looked at cannabis withdrawal symptoms in men and women. According to this research, [women reported more withdrawal symptoms like lack of appetite, anxiety and sleep issues than men did](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20678028). Women were especially likely to report upset stomachs as a result of withdrawal, something not commonly reported by men. Maybe your partner says sex is more enjoyable after they’ve taken marijuana. Maybe your best friend told you that cannabis is the only thing that gets their sex drive to even show up in the first place. \n\nYou’re not imagining these benefits when consuming cannabis. Now there’s a growing body of scientific research exploring marijuana’s effect on sex—and confirming what many already report anecdotally. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Stanford University Study: Cannabis Users Have 20% More Sex\n\nAn October 2017 [study conducted by Stanford University](https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2017/10/regular-marijuana-use-linked-to-more-sex.html) was published in the _Journal of Sexual Medicine_ and billed as the first “to examine the relationship between marijuana use and frequency of sexual intercourse.” \n\n\nThe study reveals a compelling association: Regular cannabis users have 20% more sex than non-cannabis users. The study is based on data collected in the annual National Survey of Family Growth, sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The survey was particularly useful not only due to its large sample size, but because it included explicit questions about family structures, sexual practices and cannabis use. \n\nThe responses of more than 28,000 females and 22,000 males between the ages of 24–45 were evaluated. Women who reported daily cannabis use had sex with a male partner 7.1 times per month on average, compared to six times a month for non-cannabis users. Men who reported using cannabis daily also reported having sex with women 6.9 times on average per month, compared to 5.6 times for non-users. These results crossed over a wide range of demographics, including sex, race, age, education level, income, religion, overall health, marriage and parental status. \n\nResearchers also found what they call a “dose-dependent” relationship in which the more cannabis that was consumed, the more sex was reported. This finding supports “a possible active role for marijuana fostering sexual activity,” but falls short of proving a definitive causal relationship between cannabis use and more sex. \n\n### The Science Behind Cannabis as a Libido Booster\n\nWhy would cannabis consumers possibly have more sex than non-users? Is sex more enjoyable under the influence of cannabis? Does cannabis increase libido? \n\nThe findings from a 2012 study support the hypothesis that [“the endocannabinoid system is involved in female sexual function” and can heighten female’s sexual arousal](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/22462722/). \n\nIn a more casual and far from definitive look into cannabis and sex, [_Psychology Today_](https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/all-about-sex/201105/marijuana-and-sex-surprising-results-blogger-s-informal-survey) asked their readers how cannabis affects their sex life. Sixty-seven percent of respondents said cannabis use enhances their sexual experience. \n\nBeyond cannabis, an even wider body of research supports the hypothesis that regular sex has overall health benefits. These include:\n\n* [stress relief](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10508-006-9071-1), \n* [reduction in depression](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2996660/) \n* an [increase in brain power](http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0011597)—as studied in rats \n\n### Cannabis Products for a Boost in the Bedroom\n\nThe growing evidence regarding the relationship between cannabis and sex has inspired quite a few cannabis products. If you’re interested in experimenting with cannabis to increase your sex drive, performance or arousal, here are some products that may help. \n\n* Foria Pleasure – This oil aims to enhance female pleasure by increasing sensitivity, leading to stronger orgasms. When using Foria Pleasure, it’s advised to apply 25–30 minutes before sexual activity. \n\n* Bliss Sensual Cannabis Elixir by Herbabuena – Organic cannabis, kava, damiana, yarrow, guarana, ginger, orange, vanilla and vegetable glycerin all come together to create this arousing tincture. We’ve gathered some of the most popular questions we’ve received about marijuana and sex, with the answers below to give you some insight. \n\n### Q: How does marijuana enhance sex?\n\nAnswer: @KarinDirector Great question! Using cannabis as an aphrodisiac is an ancient tradition. Cannabis promotes relaxation and increased blood flow. THC is also known to positively affect cell receptors directly involved in tactile sensation and euphoria, and inhibit pain while allowing for more pleasant signals to be received by the brain.\n\n[Read more answers to this question.](https://www.hellomd.com/answers/579fa349b5036e000b792a8e/how-does-cannabis-enhance-sex)\n\n`embed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ni7_jAgmzR0` \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Q: I've read that you can use a marijuana oil for women's sexual pleasure. Does this really work?\n\nAnswer: @DrEdmundsDoctor The good news is that THC is not harmful for the mucosal lining in the vagina, and women can and have used marijuana oil for the purpose of enhancing sexual pleasure. The oil typically comes in a spray bottle, which can be applied directly or by hand to the clitoris and outer and inner labia. Like most things, the results are mixed.

Those that notice an effect have described it as producing a tingly sensation. Some women have noted stronger orgasms and/or multiple orgasms while using this product. On the other hand, some women have experienced no effects whatsoever while using the product and even suggest that it’s \"bunk\" or a \"gimmick.\"

One complaint is that the patient is directed to wait 30 to 60 minutes prior to sexual activity for optimal effect, which affects spontaneity.

Also, latex is not compatible; so condoms may not be used.\n\n[Read more answers to this question.](https://www.hellomd.com/answers/57463b709ac0410008000097/i-ve-read-that-you-can-use-a-marijuana-oil-for-women-s-sexual-pleasure-does-this-really-work)\n\n`embed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7Dh7IZIn_k` \n\nRELATED: [Marijuana Increases Your Sexual Experience](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/587417bc2975c00008b040b1/marijuana-increases-your-sexual-experience)\n\n### Q: Is there any truth to marijuana negatively affecting sexual function in men?\n\n***My husband recently started using marijuana to help with the pain from an old football injury. He's 32 years old and I'm concerned that this will affect his sex drive/function because we are trying to get pregnant.***\n\nAnswer: @DrEdmonds\nSeveral studies have demonstrated that marijuana use decreases testosterone in men, which may lead to decreased sex drive, impotence and gynecomastia. Cannabis also decreases sperm count and sperm motility. Interestingly, there is an association between premature ejaculation and cannabis use.

Having said that, some men find that marijuana actually increases arousal and sex drive. These effects most likely occur with sativa dominant strains and THC.\n\n[Read more answers to this question.](https://www.hellomd.com/answers/573677562d7c490008000001/is-there-any-truth-to-marijuana-negatively-affecting-sexual-function-in-men)\n\n\nIf you are new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. For some, the concept of using a cannabis lube can seem avant-garde and article’s like Vice’s, [“I Got My ***** Stoned with Weed Lube,”]( https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/i-got-my-pussy-stoned-with-weed-lube-909) show that this still may be a taboo subject for some. \n\nThe reviews are in, however, and Foria Pleasure is becoming very well known for its ability to make, [“orgasms more intense, fuller or easier to access.”] (http://foriapleasure.com/pages/about-us) Foria also asserts, “For others, it can help promote natural lubrication, reduce pain and tension and create the relaxation necessary for sensual experience or restorative rest.” An absolute must have for this Valentine’s Day’s romantic crescendo!\n\nRELATED: [SHOP GREEN: MY HOLIDAY CANNABIS GIFT GUIDE](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5859ca35441200000cfedcc8/shop-green-my-cannabis-holiday-gift-guide)\n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/589b83207a547a0008f2cbd2/embedded_images/589b83247a547a0008f2cbd4/Screen_Shot_2017-02-08_at_12.39.12_PM.png)\nMoonMan's edibles taste great and are Paleo and gluten free as well.\n\n### 3. MoonMan’s Mistress Peppermint Cookies\n\nThe night should last forever, yet sadly your intimate dinner will come to end. Instead of reaching for a piece of pie, why not begin the evening with Moonman’s Mistress’s Cosmic Cacao Peppermint Cookies? A few days ago I had the pleasure of trying these cookies and two are good for one trip to the moon and one small box was just about right for orbit. As an extra bonus, these cookies are Paleo safe for those astronauts with special dietary needs.\n\nNote: Please use edibles responsibly. Individual tolerances can vary widely, especially for edible cannabis. It is recommended by Moonman’s Mistress that new users divide the cookie into quarters or halves to start. Experienced users can start with one or two whole cookies (10-20mg THC).\n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/589b83207a547a0008f2cbd2/embedded_images/589b83237a547a0008f2cbd3/Screen_Shot_2017-02-08_at_12.36.24_PM.png)\nMonk Botanicals are beautiful to give as a gift.\n \n### 4. Monk Drinking Botanical Elixirs\n\nIf shooting for the moon seems a bit too ambitious for you or your partner, I would recommend checking out Monk Drinking Botanicals. Their low dose 1:1 cannabis beverage is perfect for easing into experiencing cannabis with your significant other and the package is gift-ready elegant. \n\nEach drink contains 5mg of THC and 5mg of CBD, along with many nutritious ingredients and some memorable flavors. After trying No. 49, Cinnamon Citrus Shrub, I would describe it as truly unique in the cannabis world. The natural flavors are so distinct and the overall experience was fantastic. \n \n### 5. Hepburn’s Petites\n\nAre you wondering about those giggles I spoke about earlier? For those who simply want the good times to roll, my recommendation is for [Hepburn’s Petites](HMD new biz and prod listing). They are terpene matched hash joints that come in a convenient and I’ll admit, rather cute tin. They come in several varieties. Sava, a premium online cannabis retailer, can next day air you Cherry AK, Sour Diesel, Sour Tangie, and Girl Scout Cookies with a valid cannabis recommendation. Whether you are looking for an uplifiting sativa for inspired connection, or a balanced hybrid for the perfect relaxed setting, these hash joints will keep you and your companion in the Valentine’s spirit.\n\nHappy Valentine’s Day!\n\nIf you are new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Part 2","slug":"cannabis-for-increased-passion-and-play-part-2","content":"This is the continuation of ['Cannabis for Increased Passion & Play' Part 1](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5887f2c9d88c9d000847c1d0/cannabis-for-increased-passion-and-play-part-1).\n\n### Cannabis & Foreplay\n\nFirst things first, let’s do away with the term “foreplay” because sexual intimacy can be a delicious, lingered-over journey from start to finish. Intercourse or genital-sex do not have to be the main act, as there is so much to explore and enjoy as you traverse the whole arousal journey. \n\nSecond, women in particular need extra time to relax in order to activate their fullest sexual response. There are areas of the female brain that are associated with feelings of worry, stress, anxiety, and guilt, and these take quite a bit of time to come “offline.” \n\nAt the same time, the vast network of erectile tissue of the clitoris, rich in sensory nerves and seemingly-infinite capacity for pleasure, (and about the size of a penis, though mostly all internal), also takes time to fully engorge. \n\nAs we know, cannabis will activate a woman's relaxation response, so toking in the bathtub before her partner comes home is one way for a woman to prime her body for more pleasure. However, toking together can be a form of foreplay, a part of the sexual experience, which slows things down and allows the erotic energy to build. Passing a joint or sampling the flavors of the vape pen is a way to connect with your lover as you cultivate the senses. \n\nThere are also topicals, cannabis-infused creams and oils (like Arnicann) that are designed to be used on the skin to sooth aches, but can be used for massage and even hand-jobs, as long as condoms aren't used where there's been oils. \n\nMassage is a wonderful form of “foreplay” and it can feel as good to give as to receive. Just lose yourself in giving, without wondering if you’re doing it right, and check in here and there to receive feedback from your lover so you can adjust accordingly. Find topicals that are made from food-grade ingredients so you can lick and kiss the body parts you’ve been rubbing! \n\nTip: Breathe deeply as you immerse yourself in touching, making out, and other forms of sexy play; deep breaths intensify pleasureable sensations and emotions. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58922f0b189869000c9af616/embedded_images/58922f0e189869000c9af617/Screen_Shot_2017-02-01_at_10.52.57_AM.png)\n[Dee Dusault](https://www.deedussault.com/) is well known for her sexuality teaching which includes the use of cannabis.\n \n### Cannabis Lengthens Sexual Playtime\n\nYou can also use cannabis during the “valley” parts of sex, when the energy is less intense and you can rest and connect again, puff, and giggle, before getting down and dirty once more. \n\nCannabis, with its ability to stretch time, can help us to become lost in the intimacy, connection, and pleasure we can share with a partner (or enjoy with ourselves). Being high lends itself to slowing down and not chasing the “goal” of orgasm. Instead the goal becomes pleasure.\nWith cannabis, make-outs, cuddles, and love-making sessions become longer in duration, less goal-oriented, and as such, more of the brain chemical oxytocin gets released. This is the hormone responsible for feelings of trust, well-being and fulfillment. \n\nThe formulae for ganja-enhanced passion then looks like this: Cannabis = relaxation, + active relaxation cultivation (like yoga or a bath before sex) + mindfulness practice + good sexy play = longer good sexy play = more happy juice in the brain = more sexy play = more happy juice, in an endless loop of expanding pleasure.\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nIt’s no wonder Tantra Yoga considers sexual experience one of the foundational ways to attain enlightenment. \n\nTip: During a “valley” moment in sex, ask your partner to close their eyes and inhale as you press the cool metal mouthpiece of the vape pen to their lips. Closing the eyes enhances the other senses, so touch and taste become stronger. \n\n### What Strain or Dose?\n\nMake a sensual adventure of choosing strains, based on what you smell. Forgo delivery this Valentine’s, and take your date to a dispensary where they have nice big jars of cannabis, and take a big whiff of each one. The terpenes you like are probably medicinally helpful to you; your body is expressing it’s wisdom through these cravings and delights. \n\nBeginners might consider building a relationship to different cannabis strains before using it with sex. If you experiment and find you get agitated or anxious (or overly lethargic), that's not the strain for love making! Keep sampling, perhaps with masturbation, to see the sexy effect of each strain. There is no one best strain for sex, in my opinion, just many that can relax, arouse, and connect you. \n\nRELATED:[CANNABIS FOR INCREASED PASSION & PLAY! PART 1](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5887f2c9d88c9d000847c1d0/cannabis-for-increased-passion-and-play-part-1)\n\nRegarding dose, people new to cannabis, or who have been sensitive in the past, should start with a very low dose. I'm a fan of the principle of “minimum effective dose,” where we take the least amount of medicine needed to obtain the desired effect. It would be a waste of energy to use more muscular force than needed to chop firewood, for example, and there'd be physical consequences for overdoing it: sore muscles the next day. By the same token, there’s no need to get blotto stoned when using cannabis for sex. You can always add more! Low potency vaping (like Alchemy vape pens) helps to prevent over-doing it.\n\nTip: Each individual plant will affect your body and mind in its unique way, and this will change from time to time and plant to plant. One strain of Blue Dream might have slightly different genetics the next grow season. You might have different brain chemistry the next time you smoke it. By consuming less and going slow, you’ll be sure to ride the wave of the optimal cannabis high. \n\n### Lubrication with Cannabis\n\nNow you know why cannabis enhances passion and play, and you have some tips to make the most of it: Slowing down, being mindful, dropping goals, and immersing yourself in pleasure. \n\nA last word of advice: Make sure you have lots of water handy before things steam up. Cannabis can cause “dry mouth”, so by the same token, dryness in the vagina can also be a result. Even if you are going slow and savoring the “foreplay,” you might need to take hydration breaks or use additional lube to make sure there isn’t too much friction if you or your partner has a vagina. \n\n***********************************************************************\nIf you would like more inspiration, check out my Bay Area Valentines Tantra classes, sponsored by Alchemy Vape Pens by Dark Heart, [Kiva Chocolates](https://hellomd.com/brands/5787f6e054d3a610003b8948) and [Arnicann topicals!](http://www.goarnicann.com/ ) \n\nFriday night: [“Sexual Awakening Yoga”](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sexy-flex-for-women-tickets-31203488474?utm_source=eb_email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=new_event_email&utm_term=viewmyevent_button) class for women, Saturday afternoon: [“Partner Yoga for Love”](https://www.meetup.com/Ganja-Yoga/events/236974981/) and [“Partner Tantra Yoga and Massage.”](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/tantra-yoga-and-massage-sold-out-tickets-31204352057?utm_campaign=new_event_email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=eb_email&utm_term=viewmyevent_button) \n\nDee Dussault helps people find their bliss through relaxation, mindfulness, and sensuality. However, if you’re a total newbie to the world of cannabis, or feel apprehensive about trying it again after a bad trip long ago, let me be the first to say, it’s a brave new world now, and cannabis is not the same thing it was even five years ago. \n\n### Something for Everyone\n\nWith new scientific understandings of how it affects our body and cutting edge technology to make the most of extraction and bioavailability, cannabis is blooming. With so much diversity in strain type (literally thousands to choose from), ways to consume (smoke, vape, eat, or rub it), and types of potential effect, in many ways it’s like talking about many different plants. The good news is, when it comes to cannabis, now there’s something for nearly everyone.\n\nIf you’ve heard good things about using cannabis for sex and want to try it, consider me your green Cupid, shooting you with my arrow of knowledge this Valentine's’ day. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nYou’re in good hands: I’m a sexuality coach and relaxation expert, and I’ll give you the tools you need to select the best cannabis product to get the job done, whether with a lover or on your own, while sprinkling in some intimacy and sensuality techniques from the world of Tantra Yoga, which will expand both the psychoactive experience of the cannabis and the passion you’re experiencing! \n\n### Cannabis Relaxation\n\nCannabis is good for love because it's good for yoga, listening to music, walks in nature, and anything else you like. Cannabis increases relaxation, which enables us to connect to and feel into our bodies more deeply, which makes sex better as well. It's also important to know that when cannabis doesn’t relax you, it usually means the strain was too high in THC, or too much cannabis was consumed.\n\nIn yoga, we learn that we enjoy and appreciate life more when we’re feeling relaxed. Relaxation of both body and mind is the key to really good living, and to really good sex. Think about the best sexual experiences you've had; I bet it was when you were free of concern, anxiety, and distraction. Think about how extra-good sex feels after a run, or when on vacation. When we’re relaxed, our blood vessels dilate, allowing for greater nerve sensitivity throughout the body. \n\n### Cannabis as Sexual Lubricant\n\nCannabis, at the right strain and dose, encourages mental and physical relaxation. It has been shown to sooth depression and anxiety, while at the same time, decreasing inflammation and pain. \n\nRELATED: [MARIJUANA INCREASES YOUR SEXUAL EXPERIENCE](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/587417bc2975c00008b040b1/marijuana-increases-your-sexual-experience)\n\nI tell my sex coaching clients to think of cannabis as an energetic lubricant, washing away the corrosive armor of tension that we carry, usually unconsciously. To get high and chill out. Many of us know that stress and anxiety are implicated in low sex drive for both genders, and inability to attain orgasm in women and male premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction in guys. Using cannabis to relax is a stand for self-care and a commitment to better sex.\n\nTip: If you’re new to cannabis, explore it in places that feel comfortable and pleasing, either alone or with people you trust and feel good around. There’s no rush to develop a relationship at a fast pace. Just take your time and enjoy the journey. Choose methods of consumption that feel the most natural and exciting to you: vaping, smoking, eating, using tinctures, or rubbing on topicals. My favorite for sex is a low-dose edible that can slowly take effect about a half an hour after I eat it. Chocolates like Kiva give a wonderfully pleasurable body-buzz!\n\n### Relaxation as Foreplay\n\nUsing cannabis to relax is one thing. Using cannabis, alongside various relaxation practices, is quite another. Mindfulness is one such practice. Here you attempt to keep your attention in the present moment instead of being lost in thought. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/5887f2c9d88c9d000847c1d0/embedded_images/5892302b81d687000c7d62a3/Screen_Shot_2017-02-01_at_10.52.57_AM.png)\n[Dee Dusault](https://www.deedussault.com/) is well known for her sexuality teaching which includes the use of cannabis.\n \nMindfulness is a spiritual practice with pragmatic applications. It reduces stress and brings more appreciation, but it also can make time feel slower. When you're right here, right now, with the universe of sensation and emotion (and even noticing thoughts without getting lost in them), you get to savor the passing of time instead of feeling like you're racing against it or a slave to it. \n\nBeing mindful as you nibble that delicious artisanal chocolate edible not only makes you more grateful for the moment, it also makes the moment feel more divine. \n\nCombining mindfulness, cannabis, and sexual intimacy creates a sort of \"entourage effect\" where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Adding other forms of conscious relaxation before getting busy, like taking a hot bath, busting out some yoga, or lighting candles, will make both the high and the loving even more meaningful, sweet, and yummy! \n\nTip: What can you be mindful of, right now as you read? Nothing is more romantic than curling up with your significant other as the rain or snow falls outside your window. There is something extremely sensual about winter and the contrast of cold outside while you are staying cozy and warm inside. I find that cannabis is a great way to enhance my sexual experience and help me keep warm in the winter. Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones, but cannabis provides me with a comfort and ease in my sexual experience, leaving me completely satisfied. \n\nOne reason why this may be so is that cannabis consumption is known to stimulate the production of oxytocin in the body. The production of oxytocin, also known as the bonding hormone, is closely related to the endocannabinoid system. Oxytocin is involved in a variety of human interactions, including sexual intercourse. Oxytocin is often released during orgasm, creating a bond between sexual partners that brings them closer together. The increased oxytocin production experienced while using cannabis during sex leaves me feeling deeply connected to my partner on a physical and spiritual level. Cannabis helps us achieve a level of closeness and unity that is truly unique. \n\n### Relaxing the Body & Mind\n\nCannabis provides the ultimate sense of relaxation and ease, leaving me free from any personal anxieties. Like many other women in the world, I have my own personal anxieties. Between worrying about how I look when I take my clothes off to personal performance, sometimes my internal worrying can make sex less enjoyable. Cannabis helps free me of that stress, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the enjoyment of the sexual experience. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en) \n\nCannabis can also help alleviate physical discomfort associated with sex. Studies pointing to marijuana as an effective treatment option has motivated lawmakers to pursue the legalization of cannabis for medical purposes in individual states all over the country. One medical issue impacted by cannabis use is sexual health. Studies indicate that marijuana has different effects on men as it does on women when it comes to both sex drive and sex life satisfaction.\r\n\r\nCannabis and Men's Sexual Health\r\n\r\nThere are countless studies aimed at measuring the impact of marijuana use on men's sexual health, particularly when it comes to testosterone production. A study conducted as part of a joint collaboration between the Reproductive Biology Research Foundation and the Missouri Clinical and Biochemical Laboratory found that cannabis does indeed have an impact on testosterone production.\r\n\r\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en) \r\n\r\nHowever, it is important to note that this study related to intensive marijuana use that was primarily recreational in nature. When marijuana is used for medical purposes, the effects on those who are utilizing cannabis to ease the symptoms of a medical condition may not experience the ill effects of marijuana when it comes to sexual health. The difference is in part due to the use of modified strains for medical use as compared with recreational marijuana. High levels of THC cause the body to produce lower levels of testosterone. Additionally, men should be aware that any negative impact on testosterone production is temporary in nature. Discontinuing use of marijuana in this specific situation allows the body to regulate hormone levels once again.\r\n\r\n[CANNABIS 101 - THC VS CBD](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-thc-vs-cbd)\r\n\r\nPerhaps the most confusing characteristic of studies related to men's sexual health and cannabis use is the differing results from scientific studies seeking to measure the same variable: testosterone levels. The results of a study conducted through the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research Center at Harvard Medical School-McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, concluded that marijuana use does not have a significant impact on testosterone, although the key word here is \"significant.\" These studies did indicate an impact on testosterone levels, but researchers in this instance felt that the impact was not a strong one. In many cases, determining whether medical marijuana can be beneficial to sexual health is a matter of discussing personal details with a licensed medical provider.\r\n\r\nCannabis and Women's Sexual Health\r\n\r\nOn the other hand, there are claims that topical oils containing medical marijuana are able to enhance the sexual experience for women. The results of a study conducted through the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, support the theory that cannabis is able to improve sexual health for women by increasing arousal and strengthening the physiological responses to sexual stimulation.\r\n\r\nAfter a topical oil containing cannabis was applied to test subjects, one group of subjects was shown erotic films. The other group was not given an outside stimulus. Physiological responses related to blood flow associated with sexual arousal were measured, and test subjects were found to have an increased sexual response following the application of the cannabis oil. In addition, subjective responses to questions concerning perceived sensation were answered positively after application of the oil. The ultimate conclusion of the study was that a topical oil containing medical marijuana is an effective treatment for low sex drive in women.\r\n\r\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_/?hl=en) \r\n\r\nMedical marijuana containing a lower-than-average THC concentration has also been used to improve sexual health in women. The low-THC cannabis increases sensitivity and delays orgasm to give couples more time to share the intimate experience. Positive effects on women's sexual health seem to be most associated with cannabis with a THC level around 14 percent, while standard THC concentrations typically fall between 15 and 20 percent.\r\n\r\nThe need to stay at a THC concentration of 14 percent or lower for women's sexual health benefits is believed to be linked to the effects that higher concentrations have on estrogen production. Standard THC levels in medical marijuana can decrease sex drive by throwing estrogen levels out of balance.\r\n\r\n[MENSTRUAL CRAMPS BE DAMNED - CANNABIS SUPPOSITORY](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/menstrual-cramps-be-damned-with-new-cannabis-vaginal-suppository)\r\n\r\nSome women report that medical marijuana is also able to help with any psychological blocks that may be preventing them from enjoying a healthy sex life. However, it is important to note that medical marijuana used to ease anxiety related to sexual activity should be used at the advice of a licensed medical provider.\r\n\r\nConclusion\r\n\r\nIn response to the question if medical marijuana should be prescribed to improve sexual health, the answer is that it depends on the specific dysfunction and also the gender to which it's being prescribed. Some men may find that their hormone levels are negatively affected through cannabis use for medicinal purposes, while some women can enhance the strength of orgasms through the use of medical marijuana infused into a topical oil.
